Maureen Prescott is the TRUE Villian
While Sidney Prescott was the Scream heroine, Her deceased mother Maureen Prescott was the antagonist. She's the villain throughout the whole Scream 1 to 3. Here's why....

Let's be honest.
You know what, f-ck it, I'll be honest with you, Maureen Prescott is the True Villian of Scream. I don't care. Fight me for all f-ing care even if Sidney Prescott had to punch me just like she did to Gale in Scream. Maureen is the reason why Ghost Face keeps reappearing trying to kill Sidney and everybody else who has been killed on Scream 1, 2, & 3 before Sam, daughter of Billy Loomis, played by Melissa Berrarra, and Tara, Sam's half-sister, played by Jenna Ortega, were apart of the Scream franchise. In Scream 1 (1996), Maureen Prescott (played by Lynn McRee) was raped and murdered in Woodsboro which made investigate journalist Gale Weathers (played by Courtney Cox) wrote a book about her murder, Cotton Weary (played by Liev Schreiber) who had an affair with Maureen, and jailed for her murder as an innocent man wrongfully accused of her murder even had affairs with several other men making her a "hoochie" which explains why Sidney punched Gale in the face when she encountered her outside of the police station after she was attacked by the Ghost face killer. After that, the two meet up at her truck outside of her school confronting her about her book and Sidney apologizes for the encounter. So it comes to show that Weathers had true instinct in her book and that her killer isn't Cotton Weary leaving the actual killer behind Maureen's death was on the loose.
After numerous killings from the Ghostface killer, it was revealed Billy Loomis, Sidney's boyfriend, played by Skeet Ulrich and Billy's friend Stu Matcher played by Matthew Lillard were Maureen's killers. Rumor has it that They were "gay bros" I mean Scary Movie did a parody of their so-called gay bro relationship but I don't know. Anyways, Billy revealed to Sidney the reason why he killed her mother Maureen Prescott. Billy's father has been having an affair with Maureen causing his family into turmoil and the reason why Billy's mother abandoned Billy.
Billy and Stu plotted to use Sidney's father Neil (played by Lawrence Hecht) who was tied up and mouth taped shut to frame him for the several murders, kill Sidney and then her, wounding each other by stabbing each other and leaving them as "heroes" or better yet survivors.
Spoiler Alert: Sidney kills Billy and Stu.
The End! Or is it?
In the next sequel, Scream 2, this time Sidney is in college, Gale Weathers' book becomes adapted for the movie "Stab" and Ghost Face is back again this time killing other people including Sidney's roommate (played by Elise Neal), Randy (played by Jamie Kennedy) who survived the first film and of course coming after Sidney again. After the death of Maureen and her boyfriend Phil (played by Jada Pinkett Smith and Omar Epps), students from Windsor College the college where Sidney is attending, news reporters descend at the college including Gale working as a reporter for up-to-date, she brings Sidney and Cotton Weary was released from prison, exonerated and seemed to have forgiven Sidney after he was wrongfully accused of Maureen's murder staging a confrontation on live tv.
Pissed off!! Once again, Sidney punches Gale after making a stage TV confrontation without her knowledge. Honestly, Gale was wrong for bringing Cotton without Sidney's permission. She could have asked Sidney before the live confrontation.
Fast forward, all of the killing from Ghostface....
At the auditorium, Sidney finds her college boyfriend (played by Jerry O' Connell) tied up on a prop. The killer was revealed to be Micky (played by Timothy Olyphant). Micky tricked Sidney into believing her boyfriend was the second killer pretty much like deja vu. Sidney's boyfriend denies it and tells him unties him until he gets shot and killed by Micky however, Sidney's boyfriend was innocent and he wasn't the second killer. The actual second killer was Billy's mother Nancy Loomis who was pretending to be a journalist just to get close to Sidney. Clearly, she looked unrecognizable to Gale after all she had "work" on her to plot her revenge. The motive behind these killers: Micky wanted fame so he met with Mrs. Loomis online promising to pay his tuition. As for Mrs. Loomis, her motive was to avenge Sidney for killing Billy, getting blamed by everyone after her son Billy committed the killing, and of course, her mother for destorying her marriage.
In the end, Cotton shoots Mrs. Loomis saving Sidney from her then Micky comes back to life after Mrs. Loomis shoots him. Sidney and Gale both shoot and kill him. Sidney shoots Mrs. Loomis in the head. After the death of Micky and Mrs. Loomis, The newscrews see Sidney questioning the killings, she sees Cotton and gives him the credit making Cotton Weary the hero after all he did shoot Mrs. Loomis.
The End!
But wait here comes another one. Another sequel Scream 3.
So Scream 3 and this is whole another plot twist. Cotton Weary now lives in Hollywood and host of his TV talk show 100% Cotton. He receives a phone call from a woman who showing interest in Cotton until her voice changes to Ghostface voice. It was a trick!!! The Ghostface was in Cotton's house and attacked Cotton's live-in girlfriend Christine (played by Kelly Rutherford). Ghostface attacks Christine gets killed by Ghostface and kills Cotton Weary. After his death, Detective Mark (played by Patrick Dempsey) meets Gale at an event to tell her that Cotton was murdered by the killer and the killer leaves behind a photo of Rina Reynolds an actress aka Maureen Prescott.

Before Sidney was born, Prescott was an actress named "Rina Reynolds". Meanwhile, Sidney has remained hidden from the public and working at home as a suicide hotline operator. Weathers travels to LA to the set of Stab 3 to meet with the cast of Stab 3, and director Rowan (played by Scott Foley). After one of the cast members (played by Jenny McCarthy) was killed by Ghostface, the film was cancelled and Rowan was taken into custody. The killer left behind the voicebox that contains everybody's voices including Sidney and Maureen's voice just confusing everybody.
The killer was revealed to Rowan, the film director of Stab 3 also Sidney's half-brother (shocking plot twist). The sad part was that Rena aka Maureen conceived Rowan via sexual assault in Hollywood. After she had Rowan, she abandoned him in the foster system. Years later, Rena changed her name to "Maureen Prescott" married Neil, and had their daughter Sidney. Four years later, Rowan located her, he met her at her doorstep, hoping she would accept him, Maureen turned him away and lied to him by saying "Rena is dead". At first, I felt sorry for Maureen when she was assaulted but when she abandoned her "own" son and turned him away. And her affairs with Cotton Weary and Billy's father. Then, I remembered when Sidney was hiding in the bathroom stall in the first film she overheard calling her and her mother a "slut". My thought was: "Oh yeah, they were right". Sidney is not the slut but her mother is or was the "slut". After the reveal that Rowan is Sidney's brother, Rowan shows an archive film footage of Maureen seeing Cotton and going into a motel to see Billy's father. He revealed he had shown the footage to Billy triggering him into murdering Sidney's mother. Another spoiler alert, In the end, Dewey shoots Rowan in the head.
So, even if agree with me, fine... If you don't, know this who was the reason behind Ghostface coming for Sidney in every single film sequels. Ask yourself who is the reason why Ghostface keeps coming back.
