Intruder In The House

When Your Worst Fears Come To Life

By Amanda HutchinsonPublished 5 years ago 5 min read

Erika jolted up, she looked around the darkening living room. She could've sworn she had heard the Jefferson's in the kitchen, but the only light came from the television. It could've been their son Henry, trying to play a prank on her, it had to be Henry, and Erika was going to get extremely angry, as she had sent him to bed two hours ago. "Henry?" She called, but only silence answered her. A sinking feeling washed over Erika, "Henry, I swear if you're trying to scare me, I'm going to be extremely angry." She called. "And will never admit it's working." She whispered as she headed for the kitchen.

Chewing her lip, she flipped the light switch on, the kitchen was exactly as she left it, an hour ago. Sighing, she walked in, and looked out the window, and double checking to make sure the door was locked, she went to check to make sure the alarm was armed when she heard a noise again. It sounded as if something was scrapping the window. Shaking her head, Erika sighed, deciding it was probably a tree branch against one of the windows. But for peace of mind, she went around the first floor and double checked to make sure all windows and doors were locked.

The news was on as she sat back down on the couch. They were talking about how a sixteen-year-old girl was found mutilated in the home of a wealthy couple, with her killer still on the loose. Erika sighed, this was not going to help her relax, a creaking sound made her jump, "I swear Henry, you're in big trouble." Erika called as she marched for the stairs, she paused as the darkness and silence met her. Something wasn't right and she felt that she was being watched. "Grow up, Erika, you're allowing a ten-year-old to play tricks on you." She muttered as she slowly made her way to Henry's room.

Pushing the door open, she braced herself for Henry to jump out and scare her. But there he lay, sound asleep. She was allowing fear to play tricks on her mind. Shaking her head, Erika headed back downstairs, deciding that she was just freaked from the movie she had watched, this was a lesson, never watch horror movies while babysitting. A noise behind her made her spin, a shape looming over her, a scream escaping her lips......

Erika's heart raced; she was beyond mad. But Henry laughter was sending him to the floor. "You were supposed to be sleeping." Erika snapped.

"I heard a noise." He said between laughter, "Oh man this is so funny."

Erika angerly pushed him towards his bedroom. "Go to bed." She hissed. Shaking her head, she shut the door, and headed downstairs, but still couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her. She stopped at the foot of the stairs and looked around. The Jefferson's should be home shortly, but something was still nagging at her. Something didn't feel right. A soft beeping sound made her look towards the alarm panel.

Walking over there she noticed the alarm was showing the garage door was opened. But she knew it was locked as she double checked it before her heart attack inducing scare. Shaking her head, she quickly went to check the garage door, which was off of the kitchen. She stopped as she saw the door opened, she chewed her lip, as she walked over to close it. Double checking the lock this time and making sure the door was actually closed.

She silenced the alarm and went to give Henry a piece of her mind. As she came closer to the stairs, she could hear footsteps, she picked up her pace and rushed upstairs, she wasn't going to allow Henry to keep doing this to her. She opened his bedroom door, to him slowly sitting up.

"You know, you want me to go to bed, but you're not leaving me alone enough to fully fall asleep." He grumbled.

"I know you weren't in bed, I could hear you walking around, and I know you opened the garage door." Erika snapped.

"What?" He was very confused, and not his usual fake confusion either.

"Are you telling me you haven't been out of bed?"

"Not since scaring you." He started to smile at the thought of scaring me. "But I swear I've been in bed since."

Erika didn't want to believe him, but sadly she did. When the alarm sounded, she looked from the door to Henry. "Stay here." She ordered.

"No please don't go." Fear oozed off his voice. Erika was torn, she didn't want to leave him, but she knew that she had to stop the alarm.

"I will be right back." She promised. She walked out of the bedroom, and down the stairs, she stopped the alarm, aparently the garage door was opened again. She sighed and walked to go close it, when something struck her from behind.

Hellen tapped her finger against her leg. She has been trying to call the house for an hour, Jared said that she was overreacting, said that maybe Erika had fallen asleep. But Hellen couldn't shake the sinking feeling as they approached the house. Taking a deep breath, she tried to see the flicking light of the television, or a light left on, but the house was dark.

When the car came to a stop, Hellen rushed to the door, urging Jared to move faster. But he seemed to want to upset her more than Hellen was already. He finally unlocked the door; Hellen rushed into the house, ignoring the alarm. The house was dark, Hellen checked the living room, Erika wasn't on the couch. Which was odd, usually Erika hung out.

Hellen walked through the first floor of the house. She head something coming from the guest bedroom, it sounded like voices. Hellen was angry if Erika had a boy here, Hellen wouldn't be having her back. Entering the bedroom, Hellen froze before letting out an ear-piercing scream. Blood was all over the room, and Erika laid on the bed, in a haphazard heap. The first thought that went through her head was Henry.

Rushing to Henry's bedroom, Hellen feared what she might find. Opening the door she braced for the worse, but what she found instead was Henry sitting on his bed watching Hellen.

"Erika wouldn't stop screaming, if she didn't scream he wouldn't have hurt her." Henry said.

"Who wouldn't have hurt her?" Hellen asked.

"My brother Thomas." Henry said. Hellen gasped.

"Who told you about Thomas?" Hellen asked. Hellen had put Thomas in a instatution when he was five years old, because he tried to harm Henry. They where told that Thomas had passed away five years ago and Jared and Hellen made sure never to mention Thomas, there were no photos, nothing, so how did he know about Thomas?

"Thomas told me." Henry informed. "He's in there if you want to ask him yourself."
