Johnathan's Pov

I gasped as I sat up in an unfamiliar area. I looked around and quickly touched the area where I had been wounded. It was... Healed?

"Oh, Mr. Catcher... I'm glad to see you awake," the familiar voice of Rachael sang.

I stared at her unsure and scared. "What's happened? My father!"

She had a sad look on her face. "I'm sorry, sir. The manor burned down... And Jacob killed your father... And you."

My eyes grew wide. He killed me? He killed my father... The manor... Everything I had was gone.

"Wait... I'm not dead, Rachael," I said standing up from the bed.

She looked away. "You're actually... You've been turned... Into a vampire, sir."

My jaw dropped. I'm a vampire...? I sat on the bed in disbelief. How...?

"Jacob killed you... But I gave you my blood," she explained.

She went on to tell me that she was a vampire. And that she saved me from the fire before it took me. Everything in the manor was nothing but ashes and bricks.

I couldn't believe this... Jacob would pay for what he's done. He will pay.

(Present 2016) Natalie's Pov

I looked around the classroom. No sign of the new kid anywhere. I shrugged. Good. Maybe he moved away or something. He sure did act weird yesterday at the party after confronting Mark. And then somehow showing up at my house. Did he follow me?

My mind was somewhere else the entire first period.

"Nats, you okay?" Carol asked, rubbing my back.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. Just thinking," I said taking a bite of my lunch food.

"Ooh thinking about Johnathan?" She pumped her eyebrows.

I nudged her and made a face. "Gross. No. He follows me everywhere and he won't stop staring at me. And that smirk he always gives! What's up with that?"

"Someone has a crush," Carol teased.

I shot her a look as Lukas sat next to me.

"Feeling any better, Natalie? I heard what happened yesterday at the party. Ignore Mark. He's a jerk," Lukas waved his hand.

I giggled. "I know, Lukas."

My mind wandered again, and my eyes met with someone else's outside the lunch room. Johnathan?

The class bell rang an hour later, letting us know school was over. Finally, I can get home and do nothing.

"Why don't we all go get some dinner and a movie tonight," Lukas said with enthusiasm.

"Sounds fun... Nats?" Carol stared at me as we pulled our stuff out of our lockers.

I shrugged and nodded. No sense in protesting. They'll make me anyway. After we gathered our things, we headed outside into the parking lot. The day was yet again hot.

As soon as we walked out the door, we could feel the heat of the sun overwhelm us. I looked around the bright parking lot as students boarded buses and climbed in their own cars. Something caught my eye among the shadows of trees near the lamp post by the school.

A figure in a hoodie. Their hands shoved in their pockets. I squinted to try and get a clearer view. Soon the hoodie came down revealing... Johnathan.

"Hey, I'll be back," I said to Carol and Lukas before making off across the street.

It was Johnathan. He waved with a smirk. "Hey."

"Why weren't you in school today? You've been acting strange ever since yesterday at the party," I scold him with my hands on my sides.

He chuckled a little and smirked again. "I didn't know you cared."

I squinted at him and rolled my eyes. This guy works on my nerves. That smirk. The bad boy attitude. Ticked me off.

"Sorry for asking. I was just curious. I can't be curious?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Well considering you've made it quite clear that you hate my guts," he paused and leaned in closer to me. "I figured your curiosity wouldn't exist."

"Fine, whatever dude," I said, throwing my hands in the air and turning away.

"So, are you heading to the movies and ice cream?" Johnathan asked following behind me.

I stopped and looked at him. "How did you know that?"

His eyes grew wide then he quickly looked away. "I... Um.... Uh..."

I shot him a look but shrugged it off. He was already strange. So, him stalking me and listening in on my conversation didn't surprise me.

"Whatever. Doesn't matter... I'm going to regret doing this, but you want to come along?" I choked out those words.

A smile crossed his face. "Are you asking me out, Natalie Havens?"

"No. That would be a nightmare and I would be waking up right now," I retorted.

"You dream about me?" He said in a cocky tone.

I mumbled to myself and met with Carol and Lukas by her car. Lukas didn't look happy but Carol hugged Johnathan.

"Great! Glad you can come!" Carol said, clapping her hands and unlocking the car door. "This is going to be fun!"

Kill me.

Johnathan’s POV

I was excited about tonight for some reason. Carol, Lukas, Natalie, and I were sitting at the ice cream shop enjoying the frosty frozen treat. I can't believe I nearly blew the fact about what I am. Sure she didn't see anything, but vampires have super hearing. I know it sounds stalkerish... Yes, I followed Natalie home last night. And yes, I was watching her every move at school today. OK... It is stalkerish.

"So, Johnny," Lukas spoke up. "I can call you that right? Tell us more about yourself?"

"Well, not much to tell," I pondered and glanced over at Natalie who shrugged.

"Well your last name sounds familiar," he implied. "I think I read something somewhere about the Catcher family a long time ago."

I eyeballed him. What did he know?

"Back in 1800, my ancestor's manor burnt down," I said watching Lukas's reaction.

Natalie and Carol seemed interested in this story, so I went on to tell them how my "distant relative" was hiding something from the townspeople and they didn't like it, so they all formed together, burned down the manor, and killed everyone inside.

"Those poor people," Carol said with a sigh.

I smirked a little and glanced at Natalie who seemed uninterested. Ugh. I had to be careful how I told my past history. They might suspect something.

"Well, it's nearly 7 and the movie starts at 8. Better head on over there," Natalie said getting up.

"I'll pay for yours," I offered Natalie who looked at me funny.

"No, I got it," she protested.

I shook my head and stared at her with a smile. "Please, I insist."

She rolled her eyes and put her wallet back in her purse. I felt like I accomplished something. After that was all said and done, we walked to the theater.

"What movie are we seeing?" I asked, looking at the many posters.

"A vampire one," Natalie said.

I quickly looked at them. Say what... Why? I swear, I think they know something.

I even offered to pay for Natalie's ticket. She argued but finally gave in. When we got our snacks and seated ourselves, I made sure I sat next to her.

What was this sudden feeling I had for this girl? Was it her blood I wanted? Or... Something more?
