It was a dark and stormy night, the perfect setting for a horror story. Monica was home alone, as her parents had gone to visit her grandparents for the weekend. She loved the rain, but tonight, it seemed to be particularly intense, the sound of the raindrops hitting the roof and windows was almost deafening.

Monica was in her room, trying to distract herself from the storm by watching TV. But every now and then, she would jump at the sound of a particularly loud clap of thunder. Suddenly, the power went out, and the room was plunged into darkness. Monica was not scared of the dark, but she felt uneasy nonetheless. She went to the kitchen to get a candle and matches, but as she walked down the hallway, she heard a sound that made her freeze in her tracks.

It was a low growl, coming from the living room. Monica's heart was pounding in her chest, and she could feel the fear creeping up her spine. She knew she shouldn't have gone to investigate, but she couldn't help herself. She slowly made her way to the living room, her hand shaking as she held the candle in front of her.

As she entered the room, she saw something that made her blood run cold. There was a figure standing in the corner of the room, shrouded in darkness. Monica couldn't make out any features, but she could tell that it was not human. It was something evil, something that had come to claim her.

She screamed and ran back to her room, locking the door behind her. She was shaking, her heart racing, and she could hear the thing moving around outside her door. It was trying to get in, she could hear it scratching at the door and growling. Monica knew she had to find a way to escape. She quickly went to the window, but it wouldn't budge. She was trapped.

She heard the door handle turning, and she knew it was only a matter of time before the thing got in. She was petrified, her eyes wide with fear as she backed up against the wall. Just as she thought all was lost, she remembered that there was a secret passage in the room that led to the attic. She had always known about it, but she had never used it before.

She quickly found the latch, and she was able to escape into the attic. She was safe for the moment, but she knew that the thing was still down there, searching for her. She huddled in a corner, trying to calm her breathing and thinking of a way to escape.

Hours passed, and the rain continued to fall outside. Monica was starting to feel cramped and hungry, and she knew she couldn't stay in the attic forever. Suddenly, she heard a sound that made her heart skip a beat. It was the sound of the front door opening. She was relieved, thinking that her parents had finally returned. But as she made her way down the ladder, she realized that something was wrong.

The front door was open, but there was no sign of her parents. The living room was in shambles, as if there had been a struggle. Monica was scared, but she had to find out what had happened. She slowly made her way to the living room, and that's when she saw it.

The thing was there, its eyes glowing in the darkness. It was a monster, a demon that had come to claim her. Monica screamed and ran back to the attic, but she knew she couldn't stay there forever. She had to find a way to escape, to get away from the thing that was hunting
