Haunted by the Cremation Ground

True Village Horror Stories of Possession and Survival

By LilyPublished 10 months ago 17 min read

This incident occurred around 2005 in a village of the Teligati Union, and the person involved was named Tanisha Akter. In 2005, Tanisha was a student in the tenth grade. The event started when one day, shortly after the Asr prayer call, she set out for a friend's house because she was in need of a class book; at that time, she didn't have the book. She needed to go to her friend's house to bring it. Fortunately, her friend's house was not too far from her own, and it would take about 20 minutes to walk there. She thought she would go to her friend's house quickly, spend maybe 10 minutes chatting, and then return home before the Maghrib prayer call.

As she began her journey, she reached her friend's house and stayed there for about 10-15 minutes at most. After that, she took the book and started walking back home along the village path. By the time she left her friend’s house, it was just moments before the Maghrib call to prayer, and the call had not yet been made. The sky was glowing with a reddish hue. Tanisha started heading back home.

On her way from her friend's house to her own, she passed by two or three small cremation grounds alongside the path. Generally, during that time, fewer people were on the village road. As Tanisha was walking along the path and approached the cremation grounds, there weren't many people around. In fact, people typically did not walk along that road very much at that hour. Fear gripped her heart a bit, not because of ghosts, but because she was a girl walking alone on the road.

If any bad people pass by during that time, a little fear lingers, right? That fear was working in his mind as darkness was falling all around, and he was passing by the crematorium. Naturally, it would create a creepy feeling. However, the fear that creeped him out was less about ghosts and more about people, as he was prioritizing the fear of humans over the fear of ghosts. Fearfully, he reached home without any incidents. During the time he was passing by the crematorium, he didn’t see or feel anything unusual, but there was a slight discomfort in his mind, which is something we all experience. Anyway, he arrived home, and when his family heard that he had passed by the crematorium in the evening, they didn’t take it too seriously. However, his father recited some verses and blew them towards him. Thus, a few days passed, but soon after, a horrifying incident began to unfold. Suddenly, Tanishah’s hair started to get tangled gradually, and in no time, her entire head of hair became dreadfully knotted. Seeing this, her family became frightened, unsure of what to do. Then they started looking for a healer. They managed to find one, and when the healer came home, as soon as he attempted to enter, he exclaimed, “Oh my God, there’s something terrifying in this house! I cannot enter this house; if I do, whatever is in here will cause tremendous harm to me and my family. I have never faced such a dreadful thing before, and I don't know the method to expel it." Saying this, the healer took his leave. After that, they learned about other healers.

They also talked about the same things and left that house after doing a lot of humming and buzzing beforehand, saying they would check if this would work or how many times they would push or shove, but as soon as they arrived, their humbling would immediately go away. Everyone became like soaked cats, meaning they fled from that spot just like that. In such a situation, everyone’s wit and wisdom would come to an end; no one could enter that house at all. Meanwhile, day by day, Tanisha’s situation was becoming dire. She started to become very irritable and wouldn’t listen to anyone. It was useless to say anything to her; she began speaking to everyone in a disrespectful tone. If her father asked her to do something or said something shouldn’t be done, she would respond, “If you can do it, just do your work; why are you telling me?” Her behavior was like this even with her father, although she had a very good relationship with him. She understood nothing without her father, but her behavior had turned into something that was not just poor treatment. Gradually, a horrifying aspect began to manifest within her. It wasn’t just that she was misbehaving; she started physically attacking people whenever she saw them. The strength she exhibited was as if she had the power of 10 to 15 strong men, and no one could restrain her. In the meantime, the shamans who were looking for a solution were just going by, and those who came were verbally abused by Tanisha in vulgar language. The shamans, and others, would flee from the courtyard of the house. This was going on, and day by day, Tanisha’s condition was worsening. Her appearance, which was quite beautiful, started to evoke a dreadful feeling in people. Looking at her would make one feel there was some horrific thing lurking beneath her beautiful face. Anyone who saw her felt afraid.

However, it was not that her appearance had become utterly terrifying; it was more of a kind of terrifying feeling that would work within people, and as her dreadful condition gradually worsened, it began to manifest in various ways in her behavior and actions. The family members were compelled to bind her with iron chains; in such a state, she would strike anyone she encountered. What could the family do? Everyone was despondent, and no parents could bear the sight of their daughter in such a state. They were living an extremely miserable life, and one day, they found a knowledgeable herbalist. That herbalist's residence was situated across the Morrillong ferry terminal, on the other side, but they could not recall the exact name of the place. Tahmid bhai was keeping several names of that herbalist. After hearing about it from that ferry terminal, they set off, with much difficulty, to that herbalist's address with Tanisha.

Tanisha's family could not take her along because she possessed a terrifying strength, and being bound with chains was precarious, as she could break free at any moment and harm someone. It was a dreadful situation. Moreover, that herbalist did not provide treatment in other people's homes; it was not like what we hear in stories or events where someone is taken to him. The herbalist said that he could not say anything from there; they would need to see her at their house. He would not go to anyone else's house. Whatever was to be done, he could do it only from there; he would not go anywhere else.

Despite Tanisha's horrifying condition, they had to take her to the herbalist, and they had to endure a lot of difficulties along the way, overcoming various obstacles before they finally reached their destination. Upon meeting the herbalist, they explained the entire situation. After hearing some news and witnessing Tanisha's terrible condition, the healer became a bit frightened at one point and said, "You all should leave; I cannot handle this." Even as a renowned healer, he felt fear. When he expressed his inability, Tanisha's family began to cry and plead with him, begging him earnestly. After some coaxing, the healer felt a bit of compassion. He then said, "Alright, this is indeed a very difficult task, but I cannot guarantee anything. Please stay here tonight; I will see what information I can gather tonight. If there is even a slight opportunity for me to help you, I promise I will take the risk with my life to carry out this task. However, if I find that this is absolutely impossible for me, you will have to return. But I repeat, based on what my master has taught me, if there is even a chance for me to help you, I will surely do it." Hearing this, the family members saw a glimmer of hope, but the healer again stated that whether he could help or not would depend on some further information. "You all wait; tomorrow morning I will let you know definitively whether I can take on this task or not. Success or failure is in Allah’s hands, but I will inform you if I can commence the work or not."

So, Tanisha's family agreed and arranged for the healer to stay at their house. There, Tanisha's behavior, while somewhat abnormal, was relatively normal. The next morning, the healer called Tanisha’s family members and said, "I can attempt this task; it’s up to Allah to grant success. But remember, when I start the work..."I have to start untangling this Tanisha's tangled hair, and just when I begin to do so, a huge frightening snake will come, and it will be a snake so big that you have never seen anything like it before, I can assure you. But don't be afraid; this snake will not harm anyone. It will come and coil around Tanisha seven times, meaning it will circle her seven times, and then it will leave. You won't be frightened by it, but if someone gets scared and runs away, then they will be in grave danger, as that snake will chase them and kill them instantly. So now you tell me what you will do. Tanisha’s family was ready to do anything for their daughter; they agreed. The healer had actually learned through his ancestral knowledge how this happened and what needed to be done or how to proceed. So the healer began his work. He made Tanisha sit in a circle, but it was a pretty big circle—a very large one, not just a small circle. Tanisha was sitting in a rather large circle, much larger than the place where she was seated. After that, the healer started the rituals. As he started, when he began cutting the tangles of Tanisha's hair with scissors, suddenly a loud whispering sound came, and a huge black, shiny snake appeared before everyone. Seeing such a big snake, everyone panicked and started screaming because they had never seen such a terrifying snake before. It was neither a king cobra nor a python—what kind of snake it was, no one could say, but it was extremely frightening. However, this snake was not attacking or biting anyone; it was circling in a circular motion around the perimeter of that circle. The snake first came and stared at Tanisha for almost two or three minutes. Its eyes were bright red, as if some red light was glowing there. After that, as it continued to coil, whenever the snake made a complete turn, as it reached the point from where it started, its head would get back to that same spot.

At that time, the snake's tail was not yet finished, which means the snake was so large that even if it took one complete turn, it couldn’t finish this vast circle. Its body, or rather its tail, was not ending; before that could happen, its head was moving past and going away. The state of the snake was such that it turned seven times, and then it seemed to disappear into the direction from which it had come. After that, the healer Tanisha expertly cut the girl's hair, trimming away the knots wherever they were. The hair had become completely matted, resulting in quite a terrible sight after the cutting. Subsequently, she shaved the entire head to ensure that there weren’t many visible patches of hair, which looked quite unpleasant. Then the healer said, "Slowly, InshaAllah, your daughter will recover. Allah has made my work successful, Alhamdulillah. After all, Allah is the owner of everything; I am merely a means. Your daughter’s fate is very good. If this girl had stayed a bit longer, she would have consumed everything inside her body. This snake is known as the cremation Manasa snake, primarily a type of terrifying jinn that resides in cremation grounds. They mostly appear in the form of snakes, which is why they are called cremation Manasa. When coming from that direction around evening, this cremation Manasa fixed its gaze upon her, and that’s when it possessed her. If it had come while the Maghrib call to prayer was being made, it wouldn’t have been a problem at all. However, she began walking that way just last night, which is why this issue arose. Anyway, these jinn do not leave someone alone once they possess them without finishing them off. Another strange thing is that this jinn does not seem to want anything. However, they often desire many things. If they do indeed want to leave, they often crave things that are very difficult to give. But in this case, it didn’t want anything and just left. The healer does not really explain why it didn’t want anything and just went away. After that, the farewell incident with the kapur (camphor) of the poor does not end here with the sister.

So, the entire family has set off towards home. To clarify the situation, when we say there is a matter regarding Tanisha, the family went to the healer's house. In the middle, there was a river. The healer had said that the knots in her hair should be thrown right in the middle of the river when they cross it. He packed those knots into a paper bag. As they were crossing the river on an engine-powered boat, when they reached exactly the middle of the river, they took out the hair and threw it into the water. As soon as they threw it into the river, the boat's engine stopped. After many attempts, they couldn't restart it; the engine was not starting, yet there seemed to be no problem with it. The boat's driver, or the oarsman, was unable to understand what the issue was, as everything else seemed fine. At that moment, Tanisha's family called the healer. But at that time, there were no smartphones, just button phones. So, they called him and described the problem they were facing – that the boat wouldn’t move and the engine wouldn't start.

Then the healer guided them to where they had thrown the hair, to draw some water from there or nearby. They should recite Surah Falaq and Surah Nas together, and everyone who was there should recite together, then blow into the water. After that, they were to sprinkle that water over the engine before starting it. Indeed, they collectively recited Surah Falaq and Surah Nas, gathered some water from there, and once they sprinkled the water on the engine after blowing into it, the engine started right away. This incident happened in front of everyone, and by the grace of Allah, they reached home safely and soundly. Subsequently, Tanisha gradually recovered, and there have been no more frightful incidents since then. Tanisha is now healthy and well, she has gotten married and has children, and, Alhamdulillah, she is living life very well.So this was the incident involving Tanis Apa. Now let's move on to the next episode related to Tahmid Bhai, which was shared by a person named Alamin Bhai. This particular event took place with Alamin Bhai's maternal grandfather, Abdus Subhan Howlader. This event happened quite a long time ago, so it's difficult to pinpoint the exact year or date.

At that time, Abdus Subhan had recently gotten married and had only one child, who is Alamin's older uncle. This incident is at least 45 years old. At that time, Abdus Subhan was a young man living in the village, where most people were heavily dependent on agriculture, and their economic situation was, as you can imagine, quite weak. Abdus Subhan worked in soil excavation, and he was one of the laborers who worked with earth. Ponds were being dug in various places, and earth was being removed from the fields.

He worked in such jobs. One day, after finishing his work, he returned home, had his meal, and quickly fell asleep. People in those days who worked hard would fall asleep quickly, and those who still work hard do the same; they go to bed early and wake up very early, which is a customary practice. Abdus Subhan was no exception; he also fell asleep quickly, knowing he would need to dig earth again the next morning.

After he had fallen asleep, someone started calling him early in the morning. Hearing the call, he woke up and saw seven or eight people standing at his door. They were not fearsome ghosts; they were familiar faces—the people he worked with every day. The situation is such that when someone gets work, they call about ten acquaintances to join them for the job. This is how everyone manages to work together, making arrangements that allow one person to bring along ten others. So this is how they coordinate their work among themselves throughout the year. They didn't always work like this; they all knew each other well. They dig the soil, and they work in teams. So when Abdus Subhan saw his acquaintances calling him as he was coming out, one of them said, "How long are you going to sleep, hurry up, let's get to work." But soil digging work needs to start a bit early. Still, looking outside, he noticed that it was still quite dark; it seemed dark. He asked them, "Why are you guys calling so early? Normally, we work all day, and what’s with calling so early in the morning? Just because it's early doesn’t mean I’ll get paid more for working harder. Isn’t it enough to go at a reasonable time? What are you doing waking me up so early? If I don't get enough sleep, how will I have the energy for work?" He told them this. But at that time, he still couldn't discern if the Fajr call to prayer had been made; he couldn't tell whether Fajr had been called. He thought to himself that he had fallen asleep with a tired body, feeling like he had a good sleep but couldn't figure out when the call was made; he was reflecting on that. Not wanting to prolong the conversation with them, he said, "Wait, I’m coming," and with that, he grabbed his hoe, spade, and basket, thinking it was time to walk with them, it would soon be morning. Abdus Subhan, wiping his eyes, started to go along with them, heading toward the field where they would work. Back in the day, they would have started working early in the morning, but now they have excavators or big machines. Those days, it took a long time; sometimes, months would pass while they were working. Now, they can dig a pond in a day, whereas earlier it would take months to complete such work. Sometimes they would dig up the soil and build fences in the fields; sometimes they would create ponds, and other times they would build aisles. They did various types of work, you see.

So, the grandfather is following them closely, which means he is going along with his companions. At that time, visibility was not very good all around, and it might have been a time just before or after a full moon—the sky was quite clear, if not morning, it felt quite clear. At one point, they reached the place from where they would dig the soil, and then, as usual, the work of digging began. It should be noted that Abdus Subhan was the one operating the spade, which means he was cutting the soil into clumps.

Everything had been going smoothly until that moment; there had not been any problems, and he had not yet realized whom he had actually come with. The grandfather, meanwhile, had started cutting the soil clumps, and the other people began to throw those clumps aside. Then the grandfather noticed that Abdus Sohan Bhai was cutting those clumps, and the people were throwing them quite far away. It means that if a regular person can throw a clump of soil at least three arms' length away, these people were throwing each clump 10 to 15 arms away. Seeing such a status, the grandfather thought, what is going on? They throw the clumps so far every day, and it is difficult. Today, they are throwing them so far away—what is going on?

Abdus Subhan was a clever person; besides that, the villagers had a fairly good idea about spirits and ghosts. Still, he had some doubts about who those people were digging the soil. They kept asking for the spade from the grandfather. They were saying, “Hey Subhan, give me that spade.” Abdus Subhan was thinking, what is going on with these guys? Why do they keep asking for this spade from me? They would return and say, “Hey Subhan, give me the spade!” They seemed to be struggling very much with the digging, saying, “I’ll dig it like this!”

The grandfather, being very shrewd, understood what was happening. He thought to himself, “Yes, I’ll give the spade to you all, and you all will collectively push me into this soil, right? And then kill me.” He was reflecting on this in his mind. But the problem is, how will he get away from them? And what he understands cannot be revealed to them, right? You see, they have been tossing these clay balls or clumps around for quite some time; they are not the least bit tired. Normally, these tasks are quite laborious, aren't they? Anyway, Nana is thinking about how to escape from here. At least until the Fajr call to prayer, these people should not be allowed to understand the situation. If they hear the Fajr azan, they will not stay here, that is for sure. Nana knew about these things, so he is not letting go of the spatula, but they keep coming back asking for it. But they do not snatch it away from him. By doing this, at some point, the sound of the Fajr azan comes floating from a distance, and then those people, meaning the acquaintances he knows, all together shout, "You survived, Subhan! You only needed to give us the power once, then see what fun we would have had!" As soon as they say this, the forms of those people fade away into the air. Before Abdus Subhan, Nana had maintained his courage for quite some time, but he became very frightened in such circumstances. After all, he had kept them misled like this for a long time. After this incident, he continuously went home and started calling out. Hearing his call, his wife and others inside the house came out and asked what happened. Then Abdus Subhan explained that this incident had occurred with him. At that point, his family members said, "When did we call you? We didn't hear any shout or call of that nature." Essentially, it was a ploy of the jinn. The actual reason why they took Abdus Subhan Nana away like this, what enmity there was on their part, could not be ascertained. However, after that incident, Abdus Subhan Nana had a slight fever and was ill for a day, but by Allah’s grace, he recovered. He went to a religious scholar who performed a healing ritual for him.

So the master said they are of very mischievous nature, these beings, who lure people into a magical trap at night and then kill them. They target those individuals who are supposed to be called early the next morning or late at night or in the morning. They take them with that night call, and that's when people fall into their trap. Essentially, their job is to sacrifice humans. So Allah has saved you, and Abdus Subhan is still alive, doing well, and healthy. So this was it.
