Halloween III: Season of the Witch Has One of the Darkest Endings in Horror History

I consider this to be one of the best endings in the genre.

I can barely remember watching Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, but the one thing I never forgot was that incredible ending. I was in complete shock with how ballsy that ending was, and it's the only reason why this film sticks with me. Every time Halloween comes around, my mind drifts to this ending.

It's crazy to think that Halloween III is from the same franchise of Michael Myers. From what I learned, this franchise was supposed to turn into an anthology series, but fans loved Michael Myers so much, that they were pretty upset with how random the third entry was.

I like to think that this film does take place in the same universe, why not throw in a dude attempting to fight off robots while Jamie Lee Curtis battles a killer?

The funny thing is that is sounds so weird to even mention Michael Myers in the same universe of this film...but to be honest, some of the films in the franchise are plain weird, and should not exist.

I'm not sure if a lot of you have seen the Michael Myers film with the cult...yeah, that movie actually happened. It's laughably bad, and I would love to talk about that movie in a future movie review. Perhaps I will this year. Even the bad movies deserve some sort of recognition, right?

So yeah, going back to the third film, yes, it actually does involve robots. These robots are trying to take over broadcast stations to kill a lot of kids, who are wearing a specific mask.

I don't remember for the life of me why the masks was so important, or why these people wanted to broadcast a killer commercial, but all I remember is that the mask will cause multiple deaths if the broadcast isn't stopped.

Dr. Daniel is able to stop two of the broadcasts, but toward the end of the film, he is attempting to put a stop to a third broadcast.

He starts to plead with the person on the other end of the phone, asking them to please shut off the broadcast. He continues to plead as the commercial begins to play, and the film ends with Dr. Daniel yelling: "STOP IT!" as the film fades to black.

I love how you can feel his despair with those two simple lines. Damn, that that is freaking brutal. If it hadn't been for that ending, I'm not sure if this film would have been remembered in my opinion. I think I would have forgotten about the film, but it was saved by it's insane ending.

Like The Boy horror film that was released in 2016. I consider that a forgettable film, but that ending is the reason why I never forgot it.

And you want to know something even crazier about Halloween III? This ending was almost originally darker. John Carpenter almost wanted to go with another ending that would seal the deal with the 'bad ending.'

The film was supposed to end with children screaming behind a black screen, proving that Dr. Daniel was indeed too late. I'm so curious as to why this ending wasn't used for the final cut, but once I do watch this movie again, I will be sure to do a lot of research for this movie.

I'm pretty happy with the ending that we got, and to me, leaving it open ended is more disturbing, and makes you wonder what kind of chaos and horror took place before the screen faded to black.

It's a devastating ending, and one of the most memorable endings I have seen in a horror movie!
