Halloween Ends

Halloween Ends was a letdown. Let’s say Corey took up the mantle. That was the movie that was set up. Why did this not happen? The hospital scene in Kills was heavy-handed but could have made more sense with Corey being the new killer. Haddonfield knew what happened when they succumbed to fear. Instead of succumbing to fear, Corey was what happens when one gives into the darkness.

He straddles the line between humanity and monstrosity, and since the town made him a monster, he decided to become one.

This also felt like a roundabout homage to the possession in part five, where Michael had influenced Jamie ever since touching her hand in part four. Now, be an asshole to Corey, but beating Corey up has to go. To make it clear, Corey has extreme power, but because of a fear of hurting others, restrains himself.

Have Michael hand Corey the mask, and make it explicitly clear that Michael is trying to find out where Laurie is and he follows Corey to let him know where Laurie is. When they team up, let Corey be his scarecrow killer and let Michael kill as Michael and once Michael pops back into the shape he is meant to be, Treat Michael strong. When Corey snaps on the dickhead bullies, pervy doctor and radio DJ, and his mom, now you have two threats.

Now, when Corey and Michael arrive at the house, make sure Corey acts like he isn’t aligned with Michael, and keep Allyson and Laurie in the dark about his true nature. He confronts Michael with Allyson and it takes all three to confront Michael and defeat them and it will feel like a throwback to Allyson, Karen, and Laurie battling Michael at the end of Halloween 2018 only with a hitch.

This would set up a new film and we would have a new Shape that some fans could believe in potentially. Most fans will only want Michael, myself included, but at least with these changes we could have fun seeing him reveal himself as the new shape and there could be more drama unfolding in the next movie and certainly wondering, since Corey and Allyson slept together, what could we get there?

Could Allyson become possessed if his evil can somehow be transferred through touch? Will human touch trigger Allyson? Will she ever be able to trust again? Could her potential for trauma bonding grow worse, can it eventually get better with therapy? We do not know.

Now, Halloween Ends tried to wear too many hats, so much like the Child’s Play series. It is often said that horror movies cannot afford to have a substantial b plot to take away from the horror. Well, a cancer diagnosis conflicts with trying to live for today and then immediately slashing her. Drama horror and comedy is a hard dynamic to blend and slasher films in particular are a story starter genre. They start something and then finish it. This is a bad technique. It felt inconsistent and it felt like they were just slapping together a trilogy just so they start with a new reboot for television.

Corey could either die at the end of the next movie in this continuity or could potentially spawn his other films. if evil could be transferred through touch when he is weakened or through sex, imagine the possibilites there. And why I thought sex was a transfer of bodily fluids. Could even be spit or whatever. Corey would be the new antagonist and we could even potentially have an infected mob, killing and making new shapes.
