Dinner time at the Bonham house came and went. The family sat around in the living room as

Dad goofed around with his new dummy, Xander.

“Hi Xander,” Dad said. “How do you like being a member of the Bonham family?” The dummy

turned his head and said: “I don’t. I love it!”

“That’s good,” Dad said. “Can you do any impressions?” The dummy sat very stoically for a

moment and said, ”You are traveling through another dimension.” Everyone let out a big laugh.

“Can you do any tricks?” Dad asked.

“Yeah,” Xander answered. The dummy leaned in and his eyes shifted in their sockets.

“I can make everyone disappear.”

“That’s some kind of trick,” Dad said. “How do you plan on doing that?” Dad asked.

The dummy threw up his wooden arms and said:

“Everyone close your eyes!” The entire Bonham family laughed.

“Pretty neat trick, Dad,” Colin said. “How’d you make him raise his arms? That was the best

part. Dad rubbed his head. “You know, I’m not sure.”

“Ouch!” cried Colin.

“What’s wrong dear?” Mom asked.

“Something pinched me,” Colin insisted. Mom’s eyes narrowed as she looked at Gina.

“Did you pinch your brother?”

“No way,” Gina protested. “I’m innocent.”

“Rose,” thought Colin out loud.

“Who?” Gins asked.

“Nobody,” Colin said. “I’m getting sleepy. I’m off to bed; goodnight everyone.” He headed to

his bedroom. As he was lying in bed, Colin heard thumping against the walls. He ignored it and

fell asleep. The next day, Colin found all his clothes strewn about his bedroom. His

temples throbbed.

“I’ve got to get those glasses back,” thought Colin. “Then I’m going to strangle Rose.” He

picked up his clothes and put them back in their drawers and the closet. Then he got ready for

school. During gym class as the whistle blew, Colin tripped. Ricky burst out laughing.

“Hey klutz, can’t you run without falling over?” Colin felt his face grow hot.

“I’ve got to get those glasses back,” Colin thought. Then Math class came back around. He sat in

his usual spot. Colin forced himself to pay attention. Her deep mannish voice served as an odd

comfort. It felt good for Colin not to have to worry about Rose or the glasses. He watched as an

eraser flew up from the chalkboard tray and walked Mrs. North in the back of the head. She

turned around.

“Who threw that?” Cora Jean raised her hand. “Yes, Cora Jean?” Mrs. North asked.

“It flew up in the air by itself,” said Cora Jean. Mrs. North scoffed.

“You don’t expect me to believe that now do you?” Another student protested,

“It’s true.” Everyone nodded in agreement.

“I don’t know what game you’re all trying to play, but,” she started. Just then everyone including

Mrs. North, watched in open-mouthed amazement, as a piece of chalk lifted and started

writing.

It spelled out: “Put on your glasses, Colin!” Right after school, Colin headed straight to Warren’s.

He purchased the glasses again, stormed out of the store, and once again put on the magic

glasses. He saw Rose sitting on the sidewalk.

“What do you want?” Colin growled. Her hair went wild, her eyes whited out, and volts of

electricity went coursing through Colin’s body. He tried to scream, and he tried to move, but the

pain was too great. “I’m going to die,” thought Colin. The pain ceased and he dropped to his

knees.

“Don’t yell at me,” Rose warned. “Or it’ll be the last thing you ever do.” He tried his best to

catch his breath. Colin stood up on shaky legs.

“What do you want?” Colin asked.

“Bloody Mary is loose in your world,” Rose said.

“What does that mean?” Colin said.

“It means you and everyone you care about are in great danger,” Rose warned.

“How?” Colin asked.

“Bloody Mary is a vicious prankster,” continued Rose.

“Her pranks have a way of getting people hurt or worse.” Colin gulped.

“How do we stop her?”

“You have to get her back to her world and seal off the entryway between the two worlds,” Rose

said.

“Terrific,” Colin answered rolling his eyes.

“Halloween is coming up,” said Rose. “She’ll practically be impossible to stop on that day.”

“That is a week from yesterday,” said Colin. “I better hurry.”

He wore the glasses all the way home. He searched everywhere. The last room to be searched

was Mom and Dad’s room. He saw the dummy sitting on the bed. He could see a heart beating in

its chest.

“You’re alive,” Colin said. It turned its head and shouted at Colin.

”Silence!” It leaped up and tried to strangle Colin. Xander’s legs kicked at the boy’s chest. He

looked into the dummy’s eyes and said:

“Bloody Mary, I command you to return to your realm, and never return to mine!”

Then he took Xander into the bathroom.

“Woah kid, you think I’m Bloody Mary?” Xander said.

“Don’t play innocent with me,” Colin declared. “I know how deceptive Bloody Mary can be.”

The spirit of Bloody Mary leapt out of the dummy, and into the glasses. Then he smashed the

glasses by throwing them to the ground and stomping on them. Thankfully, Colin never heard

from Rose or Bloody Mary ever again!

    Very unusual tale

This story has such a wild, spooky vibe—like Goosebumps meets a haunted ventriloquist act! That twist with Xander being alive? Top-tier chills. Colin deserves a break after saving his world from supernatural pranks—he’s earned it!
