Fans of the quirky zombie flick, Shaun of the Dead, will be happy to know that a vampire themed sequel almost made its way to the light of day—or bummed it didn't happen. Simon Pegg recently told Entertainment Weekly about a time that he and Edgar Wright discussed a follow-up to SOTD—one that involved vampires.

During the interview with EW, Pegg clarified that talks of a potential follow-up to Shaun of the Dead amounted only to "pub talk," as he'd call it. He didn't elaborate much further, but the concept is just as wacky and great as the original:

"I jokingly wrote a treatment for From Dusk Till Shaun, which was a sequel to Shaun of the Dead. It was all about Shaun and Ed having to go up to Edinburgh, or something. I don’t know. It was ridiculous. And it was a joke. It wasn’t like a serious pitch. Edgar thought it would be funny to do the film again, but with vampires. But it was all just pub talk."

Director Edgar Wright chimed in during the same interview to add his two cents on the sequel that never came to be, and it's proof the sequel would have been even more weird:

"There was a brief idea we had, that we entertained for all of like 72 hours, where I thought you could do an alternate reality sequel. It basically starts with the same movie but then it becomes not about zombies. But these films, they take three years. So, it’s like, if you’re doing another movie, let’s do something completely different.”

Should From Dusk Till Shaun Happen?

Wright and Pegg's comments aside, From Dusk Till Shaun needs to happen. The original was such a hilarious romp, as well as a huge success in the box office, that fans would be lining up around the block to see Shaun of the Dead with vampires. I mean, SOTD is screening at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles as part of this year's Halloween festivities so that just goes to show that a substantial cult following is still invested in the film. But unless Wright and Pegg fully committed to developing From Dusk Till Shaun, a vampire-centric sequel won't happen, no matter how much we'd want it to.

Hopefully, they do eventually find the time and the desire to make a sequel. I for one, would pay to see a retelling of Shaun of the Dead with vampires and most fans would probably say the same. Plus, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's names have become much more well-known in Hollywood since they first started making headlines, so they'd easily find support and funding to make the movie happen—just look at James Gunn's passion project with The Belko Experiment. All they need to do is pull that old script out of the slush pile and place it in development.
