Enchantress

The Power Inside Me

By Jasely SantiagoPublished 4 years ago 4 min read

"Luna..."

'There's that voice again.' Luna knew when that voice was near, she was most definitely dreaming. Or having a nightmare, she didn't really know what to think anymore. Luna couldn't believe that this was the third time in a row she's had the same dream. The same woman; in the same dark hallway; the only thing that can be seen is the green light the illuminates the room and the woman. It baffled Luna that this woman has been taunting her dreams for the past three days, but she can't really do anything to stop it. What suprised her the most, was the fact she remembered the dream everytime.

"Luna..."

"Come to me..."

'Well that's new.' Luna realized that this was the first time the woman has echoed something else besides her name. What the woman fails to notice is that every-time Luna tries to step closer to her, she wakes up immediately afterwards. 'Maybe this time will be different, I mean she is beckoning me.' Luna begins to take a step, and wouldn't you know it, she doesn't wake up.

"That's it, Luna darling, come closer to the light..."

'Well that's not ominous at all.' Luna thinks sarcastically to herself. She feels like the woman might be able to read her thoughts by the way she can hear their voice in the back of her head; echoing through her entire cranium. Luna can't see the woman's facial expressions, but she has a strong inkling that this woman has a sinister smile while beckoning her to come closer.

'I have to wake up, something doesn't feel right.' The closer Luna gets to the green light, closer to the woman being illuminated by it, Luna begins to feel disoriented. That nauseating feeling was definitely from the woman and the dizzying green light.

"Luna, stop fighting this and come to me..."

"NOW!"

'Well, that's my cue to get the hell out of here!' Luna turns to run the opposite direction of this green lit enchantress, and if this wasn't a dream, she probably would've fainted on the spot from how terrified she was. Luna noticed then she was running at a snail's pace. The woman with the green light was beginning to gain on her and Luna realized the ony thing that would be able to somehow save her is to wake up from this horrific nightmare.

'All I have to do is open my eyes, I know I'm dreaming so why can't I wake up?'

"Luna you can't run from your truth, stay where you are so you can embrace what you truly are!"

Luna eyes snapped open, she was in her bed and relieved she was out of the nightmare. She tried to get up from her bed, but then realized she was completely paralyzed; the only thing she could move was her eyes, looking side to side. 'Oh this hasn't happened since I was a child, what the hell is going on tonight?' She thought in her mind. Luna tried to move a hand, foot, anything so she could get up, but none of the muscles in her body were cooperating with what her brain wanted.

That's when she felt something wet fall on her left cheek. Luna began to move her eyes up towards her bedroom ceiling and immediately regretted her choice. Her nightmare has now been personified; the woman in the green light was floating right on top of her body, smiling down at her; a terrifying smile, all her teeth shown as she grinned from ear to ear. Her eyes were wide, unblinking as stared down at Luna. The wetness Luna felt on her cheek was coming from the woman's mouth; a dark color, almost black, like she was contaminated with something and it's finally being released from her. The woman's voice echoed through the room:

"Luna... Did you really think you could escape from me this time? I've been trying to contact you for years, it seems that you have been blocking me from your mind. However... you can never escape destiny, it's always bound to catch up to you."

Tears began to well up in Luna's eyes as she remembered that what this woman in the green light was saying is true. She has had this woman haunting her dreams for years now, but it almsot seems like she forgets it and remembers again during a specific time period; like the week before every one of her birthdays.

'This feels like the end of something; my life, I really hope not.' Luna thought. She was now looking directly into this woman's eyes, a witch of some sort waiting to cast a curse or something on Luna. She thought this would be the worst 21st birthday ever, and it was about to get worse as the woman began to float down towards Luna's body, and Luna felt her entire body shaking as she cried quiet tears in the dark.

The green light surrounding the woman began to encompass Luna's entire body and it felt like it was gripping to her tightly. The woman still had her menacing smile on her face as she laughed and said the words that sent nausea through Luna's stomach:

"Embrace it."

The woman began to somehow dissolve into Luna's body, and all she could do was cry as her body felt like it was being burned from the outside in, the light coming from the woman integrating with her. Luna closed her eyes for a split second, she thought, but when she opened them, it was bright and early in the morning. She was standing in front of her mirror across from her bed and was brushing her hair. Luna was looking at her eyes in her reflection and realized her eyes had changed their color from hazel to green overnight.

Then Luna heard a voice inside her head tell her:

"This is only the beginning..."

"Luna..."
