Cages are Wild
A woman finds a door in a golden field.
There was only one rule: don’t open the door. The sun shone down on her. She wept.
“I don't want to be here!” An electric fence surrounded her and under the ground, electric currents shot through the earth.
She was alone. She had opened the door in the barren field. It was a dare from the beginning. She got a text message saying there was a door in the golden field. With a twist of the knob, she found herself in a tight space outdoors with no phone or any way of contacting anyone. The electricity seemed to be intensifying as tears wet her face. She knew that she needed to be calm. She sat criss-cross applesauce and tried to gain some composure. Thoughts raced through her head like Formula One cars.
A break came. Just open the damn door. What’s the worst that could happen? She stood to her feet and wiped her face. A deep breath issued forth through her mouth. She reached out her hand, and then slapped it with the other as if her brain forsook itself.
By standing straight and waving her hair back, she ventured to open the door. Completely committed to the idea, she steppped forward. The electricity seemed to hum all around her. The growing tension in her body didn’t give her a chance to think again. Around her and underneath her, she felt the heat from the currents. The blue sky and beaming sun seemed to mock her in their everyday nature. Her fists balled. She puffed and approached the door with integrity. She twisted the door’s knob. The door swung open. She walked through the portal. Swiftly, she closed the door behind her. Her hands slapped as if she had just finished a project. Then, a lightning bolt struck her dead.
