There was only one rule: don't open the door. She had crashed and slid her way through the pouring rain and dark forest. Calling out for help and praying for a light. As she slid and fell in the soaked underbrush she glimpsed a light in the distance. Gasping for breath, soaked and shivering, she limped towards it desperate to escape the cold and wet and the flickers of movement between the trees that she had been seeing ever since she lost her way.

Stumbling, she pounded upon the door of the old, ramshackle cabin. A shuffle and scrape came from inside as the door creaked open to reveal an old, disheveled woman. "What'd you want? she croaked. "Please. I'm lost and cold and I need to get home. Do you have a phone?" "No phones here," grumbled the crone, "but you can stay the night and head out in the morning." With that she shuffled away from the door. The girl stepped inside, shaking but grateful for the warmth of the cabin. "I sleep in the other room," said the old woman, "you can have the sofa. Only rule I got is don't open the door yonder. I'm off to sleep." With a creak and a bang the woman closed the door to the other room and all went silent.

Hours passed. The girl lost her shiver in the warm room. Every now and then though, she thought she heard sounds from behind the closed door. Scratches and whimpers. Finally, she could stand it no longer, and moving softly, she opened the door.

In the morning, when the searchers scoured the forest for her, there was no sign to be found. Just a lonely, empty, cabin in the woods, it's door flung open and creaking upon broken hinges.
