Aswang

A Horror Story in the Philippines

By Holy Christian Gadiana QuerobinPublished 3 years ago 4 min read

Once upon a time, a small village in the Philippines with lush forests and pristine rivers surroundings. The villagers were known for their hospitality and kindness, but they kept a dark secret hidden from outsiders. Legend had it that a powerful spirit named "Aswang" roamed the village at night, preying on the innocent.

The villagers had learned to live with the fear of Aswang's presence but never spoke of it openly. That is, until one day, a group of foreign tourists stumbled upon the village and decided to spend the night. The locals greeted them warmly, offering them food and a place to rest. But as the sun set, the villagers became restless and anxious.

The tourists could sense something was off but couldn't grasp it. They decided to retire to their rooms early, hoping to get some rest before continuing their journey. However, they soon realized that they were not alone in their rooms.

The first to experience the horror was John, a young man who had decided to nap before dinner. He had barely closed his eyes when he felt a cold breath on his neck. He opened his eyes to find a dark figure standing at the foot of his bed, staring at him with glowing red eyes.

John tried to scream, but no sound came out of his mouth. He was frozen with fear as the figure crept closer and closer. Just as he thought it was about to attack, the figure vanished into thin air.

The other tourists had similar experiences throughout the night. Some heard strange noises, while others felt a cold breeze or saw shadowy figures in their rooms. They tried to leave the village at first light, but their cars wouldn't start.

The villagers were apologetic and claimed the spirits were angry because the tourists had disturbed their rest. They offered to perform a ritual to appease the spirits, but the tourists had had enough. They left on foot, hoping to find help in the next town.

Walking through the forest, they heard strange whispers and laughter from the trees. They quickened their pace, but the sounds only grew louder. Suddenly, they stumbled upon a clearing and found themselves face-to-face with the Aswang.

The creature was unlike anything they had ever seen. It had long, sharp teeth, a hunched back, and leathery wings. Its eyes glowed with an otherworldly light, and its breath smelled of death.

The tourists tried to run, but the Aswang was too fast. It swooped down and snatched one of them up in its claws. The others watched in horror as the creature tore into its friend with its teeth and claws.

They ran as fast as they could, not looking back until those people were sure they were safe. They eventually found help and reported the incident to the authorities. But the villagers denied everything, and others swept the incident under the rug.

The tourists never returned to the Philippines, and the villagers returned to living as usual. But occasionally, someone would whisper about the Aswang and the horrors it brought upon their village. And the fear that gripped the tourists that night would never be forgotten.

Years passed, and the legend of the Aswang continued to haunt the villagers of the small Philippine village. Some believed that the sacrifice of the tourist had appeased the spirit and that it would never return. But others needed to be more sure.

One day, a young girl named Maria went missing from her home. Her family searched the village and the surrounding forest, but no sign of her. They feared that the Aswang had taken her.

The villagers gathered in the town square, trying to decide what to do. Some suggested calling the authorities, while others wanted to perform a ritual to appease the spirit. But then, an older man stepped forward, claiming he knew how to defeat the Aswang.

The older man was known for knowing ancient folklore and legends, and the villagers trusted him. He told them that the Aswang could defeat with a special potion made from a rare herb found only in the deepest parts of the forest.

The villagers set out on a mission to find the herb led by the older man. They searched for days, battling through the dense undergrowth and facing various dangers. Finally, they found the herb and brought it back to the village.

The older man used his knowledge to make the potion and instructed the villagers on how to use it. They waited until nightfall, knowing that the Aswang would come.

Sure enough, as the moon rose high in the sky, the villagers heard wings fluttering and claws clicking. The Aswang had returned, and it was hungry.

The villagers armed themselves with the potion and waited for the creature to attack. They threw the potion at it when it swooped down, hoping it would work.

To their surprise, the potion had an immediate effect. The Aswang screeched in pain and flew off into the night, never to be seen again.

The villagers cheered and celebrated their victory, grateful to have finally defeated the spirit that had haunted them for so long. From that day on, they knew they were no longer at the mercy of the Aswang and could live without fear.

But they never forgot the horror that had brought them together, and they continued to tell the story of the Aswang to their children and grandchildren, hoping they would never forget the lessons it taught them.
