Astral Projection

The Real Story

By Denise WillisPublished 8 years ago 4 min read

I began astral projecting when my first child was six weeks old, and it continued throughout my life, making me afraid to lie down for fear I couldn't come back to this world once my soul was pulled from my body.

The only way I can describe the feeling of astral projection is it is like electricity pulsing through you, but you feel no pain. With each ripple of that feeling of electricity, you lose more and more of your ability to move or speak. Once you have reached the point of not moving or speaking, you may try to scream, but nobody will hear you, because you aren't really screaming anywhere but inside your own head. A vision will then show itself to you, either as something you observe from the outside in, or perhaps you will become part of the vision. A lot of times they don't seem to make sense, but think about what you see, write it down so you don't forget, and read over it from time to time in your life. You may realize there was a reason you saw what you saw.

My first experience with astral projection was after my first son was born. I remember lying in my bed and watching his little body in his crib, which I kept in my room. I was very tired that night, and you are a lot more likely to have this experience if you are very tired. The sensation of losing the ability to move, the electric ripples of energy, and the inability to speak all hit me at once, and when I opened my eyes I saw a beautiful Chinese woman standing within a golden triangle. She was staring at a Chinese man, who was kneeling and looking at her. He had a sword in his hand and it was shoved to the ground, and all he kept saying was, "You will do it," to the woman, who was obviously not willing to do whatever he insisted she should do.

The vision was brief, and I remember forcing myself to blink my eyes and pulling myself out of the vision. I had to force myself to sit up so I wouldn't get that sleepy again and go back into the projection. Later in life I learned that if I had some wine before bed, the alcohol would stop the astral projection from happening. You have to be totally straight or it will not happen for you.

After my mother passed away, I was very grief stricken for probably longer than is considered acceptable. One Saturday morning, I was lying on the sofa and my husband was at work. He and I had not been close for a while, so he worked on Saturday mornings, and sometimes Sundays as well. I remember the kitchen was suddenly lit up with bright yellow light and there was laundry soaking in the sink. My maternal grandmother was there, helping with the wash, and my mother was there, the way I remembered her before she got sick. This was all going on at the foot of the sofa, but then, at the head of the sofa I saw the wall suddenly disappear, and it was snowing outside. A beautiful dog came in for me, and she was composed of bright, white light. I followed her outside in the snow, with only my socks on my feet, but I never felt the cold once I got past that area where the wall disappeared. The dog was giving me a message and her message was that if you want something badly enough, then the walls that stop you can disappear, if you have the courage to stand up and walk through them.

I came out of the vision, but this time I wanted to go back, back to the bright kitchen where my mother and grandmother were laughing and talking, and back to what I referred to as my "white spirit dog."

A year later, I left my husband and was living in a small apartment in southern Colorado. I needed companionship, so I went to the Humane Society shelter to find a dog. I found my perfect dog and she looked just like the dog in my vision, except she was black, but I knew she was the right one. She has been with me through thick and thin, and when I place my hand on her I am instantly comforted.

I have had her for 11 years now and I am convinced she is my white spirit dog in the flesh, since she has always guided me and been there for me. She has a white blaze down her chest and I always think that she has that to remind her of who she really is.

Many books have been written on the topic and some sites promise to teach you how to astral project, for those who are adventurous. If you want to astral project, be ready for anything. Remember, it won't work if you are high, drinking, or doing anything else that might interfere with the process. Be relaxed, be straight, and say a prayer first for protection. You soul is traveling, but there is always a thin, golden string that keeps it connected to your body, so you aren't going to die or never come back. Although, there were times when I went places I never wanted to return to, but I soon learned that if I heard a fly buzzing in my ear, to pull myself awake and not go. A fly represents filth to me, so to go would result in me going to a bad place. Perhaps you will develop your own radar for knowing when to stay and when to go.

I love art as much as writing, and when the world feels dark, I get out my paper and colored pencils and draw while listening to music. When my husband and I were going through a divorce, journaling is what got me through that..
