The keepers slip away after some time. I lie on my bed above the sheet. My sobs stopped, a small while ago. I couldn’t sleep. I happened to glance at my bedside. The blue pill started back. I picked it up. I sniffed it. It smelled like the chemical that made me pass out before I was brought here.
Memories rushed back to me causing a shudder through my body. I decided that it makes me fall asleep. I went to the bathroom. I took a sip from the faucet and swallowed the pill. I immediately started gagging and choking. I tried drinking from the faucet. That didn’t help.
I collapsed on the floor. Laying there I felt peaceful. Soon I slept.
I was in a room. My hands were handcuffed and my entire body was tied to the chair I sat on. There was a gag in my mouth. I couldn’t make out anything other than the table and another chair. The leader of the keepers stood next to the chair.
He spoke in a deep almost cruel tone” Hello, Cameron.”
I said”How do you know my name, but it sounded more like, “Mmm mm mmm mmmm mm mmmm?” “ I can’t possibly understand what your saying.” He said. He leaned forward and took the gag out. My tongue was dry from touching the cloth. “I said, how do you know my name?” He sat in the chair across from me.
“I know everyones name.” He said as he laced his fingers together in his lap. “Ok then why did you bring me here?” I say.” To warn you.” He says. I almost let my mouth drop open. Almost stuttering I say “Warn me?” “ Yes, boss likes a number of people. You are one of them. If you win out of everyone, he will give you a choice.” I stared at him wide-eyed. That seemed to amuse him ,so I made my face expression less.
“ You could stay here or go home. But he makes it sound like you can’t go home. You can be a lab scientist and make the pills, or a surgeon and give people the implants, you could be a keeper or ,head of keepers, you could be a cook and prepare food, you could be a game tester and try out all his new games, or lastly you could be his right-hand-man.”
“Soo…” I say. “I’m not really understanding.” He sighs. I can see his mouth move under his mask which looks almost, creepy.
“ You need to choose to go home. I didn’t and I regret that now. I’ve
seen so many people die. I’ve killed people. I have night terrors about it. I’m almost to my breaking point. I just don’t want you to end up like me.” I look at him. He likes me. I shudder. A murder likes me.
I choose my words carefully. “ how do I choose home then?” “ When he asks you, just say home. Nothing else just “home”.” He says. “Ok I’ll try.” I say “ oh and one more thing, if it comes down to me or Carly Samson, will you help her? She has three brothers that miss her. She’s also my only friend.” he pauses. “ Maybe,” and with that he leaves the room. I sat there thinking. Suddenly the room looks as if it’s wobbling. Then everything fades to black.
I wake up on the floor of my bathroom. I got up and rubbed my head. I was still sort of tired so I sat on my bed. “Was that a dream,” I mumble to myself. “ or a nightmare? I lay on my bed and put the sheet over me. I look over at my bedside.” No it was real.” My voice was strained. I close my eyes and try to sleep.
On my bedside, my timer had been reset for two hours.
