In 2001, a horrifying disaster occurred as a result of a business seeking to save money by taking short cuts, which is something we've heard far too frequently.

David Mays and Ian Erickson, two bakery employees at Harvest Time Bakery in Leicester, were asked to fix an oven that had broken down. The machine should have been allowed to cool for 12 hours, but was only left for two. When the men entered the oven to make the repairs, they climbed through the bottom onto a conveyor used to move the dough through the massive machine while wearing thin all-in-one suits. As far as they knew, the center of the oven was at the top of the oven. There was no way to quickly reverse the conveyor or remove the two men from the oven by the time Erickson, who had brought a radio with him, sent a panicked message that it was too hot. It took 17 minutes for the conveyor to pass through the oven before the men could be assisted. Maize was trapped inside the oven and by the time he was freed had 80 Burns to his body and died at the scene. The tragedy occurred because the bakery prioritized productivity over safety. The repair should have taken four men 12 hours, meaning the business would have lost 1120 pounds for every hour the oven was shut down. However, in an effort to save money, they baked two of their employees in place of Ericsson and Maize.

Hoarder Lost Her Son's Body

In 2016, Rita Wolfenson was living by herself in a Brooklyn residence. Rita, who was officially listed as blind, had accumulated items for a long time that completely filled her home.

Rita was married and had two adult boys, but sadly, both her husband and one of her sons passed away in 1987 and 2003, respectively.

When Rita's brother's wife went to Rita's house to get some clothes and toiletries for her stay there after Rita was admitted to the hospital due to a bad form, she was overcome by the overwhelming odour of rotting food. The house was packed with hoarded items and had lost touch with Rita's extended family, although she had recently rekindled communication with her brother, which led to the horrific discovery found in her home. The remains belonged to Rita's other son Lewis; the discovery was shocking to Rita as she believed her son had left their Brooklyn home 20 years earlier. The room where he was found was crammed with trash and rotting food, which probably covered up the smell of rotting flesh and prevented Rita from seeing or smiling at her son's rotting body. Amazingly, the police believed Rito was telling the truth and were unaware of this.

Sanju Bhagat

As a child Sanju Bhagat from Nagpur India was healthy enough although he had a noticeably protruding stomach. As he got older, he was teased and nicknamed the pregnant man by locals. However, in his twenties Bhagat's stomach ballooned and was so swollen he looked nine months pregnant and could barely breathe. He lived with the affliction for several years not knowing what was causing it until one night in June 1999 the then 36-year old's breathing got so bad that he was rushed to hospital where doctors thought he might have a giant tumour. They operated on Bhagat fearing the worst, but during the operation the surgeon saw something that he had never encountered before. As he cut into Bhagat's stomach, gallons of fluid poured out and inside the stomach cavity there appeared to be many bones, some hair and genitalia. It seemed there was some strange half-formed creature living in Bhagat's tummy. What had been removed was actually the mutilated body of Bhagat's twin brother. Since birth Bhagat had been living with one of the world's most bizarre medical conditions.

Two Year Old Boy Regurgitated Alive By a Hippo

Two-year-old Igapol was playing at his home near Lake Edward in Uganda when a hippo grabbed him from the shore and started to swallow him whole. A brave bystander saw the incident and started throwing stones at the animal to scare it into letting the boy go. By this time the beast had half swallowed the boy. In December 2022, it came to light that a toddler had a lucky Escape in an accident so horrific it must have scared the young boy for life. Authorities advised those living close to the lake that all wild animals are very dangerous and see people as a threat. The second-largest land animal on Earth, hippos are notoriously violent and have been known to split canoes in two with their bite and murder 500 people annually in Africa; the little child had a very fortunate escape.

Muhammad Mesfewi Walled Up

In the early 1900s, Muhammad Mesfewi worked as a shoemaker and trader in Marrakesh, Morocco, with his female assistant Hannah, who was 70 years old. On the outside, he appeared to be a kind and helpful man, but he used his business to lure in female clients. He and Anna drugged and killed at least 36 women, and after incapacitating them, he severed their heads with a dagger. Many of his mutilated victims were discovered.
