2020 Meets the Roaring 20s
Grab your raccoon coats and your bathtub gin, we're taking a trip to the roaring 20s

Remember when we closed out 2019 anticipating a brand new start to life? I think it's safe to say that we were in for a rude awakening.
If you're like me you were probably fantasizing about this next decade.
"Ahh, 2020. That just sounds so classy. I think I'll do something big. Get a car, move out, maybe even skydive."
How cute.
Little did any of us know, we'd be coming into a new year full of tumult and apocalyptic vibes, starting with the pandemic that universally disturbed the balance of things.

You've heard the saying, "history repeats itself," right?
Did you know that exactly 100 years ago the Spanish Flu pandemic plagued the world just as Covid-19 is now?

Between the deaths of several legends, such as Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, massive conflagration in the form of month-long bushfires in places like California and Australia, swarming locusts, rampant murder hornets, loots, riots and protests, the stock market crashing and Covid-19, I think it's safe to say that 2020 has become the rollercoaster ride that none of us were anticipating and that all of us want to dismount.

So at the start of spooky szn, while I was contemplating my Halloween costume for this year, it dawned on me that we are, in fact living in the modern day 20s. THE ROARING 2020s
You see, it's very much like the 1920s, except it's the complete opposite. The roaring 20s were characterized by economic prosperity, and major social change. Women defied the social norms and wore whatever they wanted. They bobbed their hair, wore shorter dresses and danced the nights away to jazz. This is where we see the birth of flappers, or American women who exercised their freedom and expressed themselves through what was considered unconventional and inappropriate attire at the time. But like the bada***s that they were, they didn't care.

AHA!
That's when I knew what I wanted to be for Halloween 2o2o.
I wanted to play on the fact that we're living in the modern day roaring 20s, albeit the connotation is rather negative.
"So what makes a flapper a flapper?" I thought.
Well, first you need a short dress that serves as a statement.
What I wear is not my intent and a short dress that hugs my body does not make me any less of a woman! I deserve to be comfortable and able to move around with ease.
"Next, I'll need adornments!"
Pearls, a headdress, sparkly fishnets, and a prop? Check.
Gotta have the makeup, and I think red lipstick is an essential staple for this look. I want to look and feel beautiful for ME. Makeup does not symbolize promiscuity.
Lastly, I'll put on my best bob. Why should women be forced to wear long hair and long hair only? My short hair doesn't make me any less feminine nor does it make me any less of a lady.
Once everything came together this is what I had:

What do you think?
I absolutely love how everything came together to create this sultry yet classy look.
I'll admit, this year's costume deviates from my usual witchy, spooky vibes, but I think 2020 pretty much has the horror portion of Halloween covered.

I figured why not dress up as a trailblazing, classy woman who determines her own fate and needs no man?!

In a world that's burning all around you, light your own way using your inner illumination. They say peace and happiness come from within. Get in, it's time to channel that.

So whether you're a ninja turtle, a teen titan, a witch, or a creepy clown for Halloween, grab your raccoon coat and your bottle of something your legally able to drink, we're taking a trip through the roaring 20s!
Hope everyone had a very happy Halloween!
