10 Dark Anime You Should Definitely Consider Watching Before You Die

If you are into dark, creepy psychological stuff then this article is for you, because in this article I will recommend to you 10 such creepy and dark anime which will make you cringe after watching it. But before reading this article, make sure you are at least 16 year, or older, because these anime have many scenes which are not very suitable for everyone (below the age of 16).

This article is gonna be spoiler free, I won't spoil anything. So that you can enjoy watching the anime to its fullest.

1. Parasyte - The Maxim

Parasyte is a 24 episode long anime series, which is very good but at the same time very underrated. This anime was released in 2014 and it got 4.8/5 rating on Crunchyroll & 8.3/10 rating on MAL (My Anime List). You can watch Parasyte: The Maxim (Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu) on Crunchyroll and Netflix.

The story of this series goes like this; dangerous parasitic aliens come to earth, and these parasitic aliens enter the human body and take control over their brain & body. Shinichi Izumi, a 16 year old high school student also falls victim to these parasites. But the twist is the parasite failed to take control over Shinichi Izumi's mind, and ends up in Shinichi's right hand. Now, the parasite depend upon Shinichi, in order to survive on earth. Watch this anime to see how Shinichi Izumi survives in this chaotic world.

2. Tokyo Ghoul

Tokyo Ghoul is considered as one of the popular dark horror thriller drama Anime. This anime is an adaptation of the original manga - Tokyo Ghoul, which is actually better than the anime. The story and animation are both so good. Tokyo Ghoul anime series has received a rating of 7.7/10 on IMDb and 7.7/10 on MAL (My Anime List).

3. Another

This one is a horror mystery supernatural drama genre anime. This anime has 12 episodes, you can easily finish this anime in one day. This anime is very dark & disturbing, which will leave you speechless after watching it. The anime was released in 2012, and it's available on Crunchyroll. This anime has got a rating of 4.7/5 on Crunchyroll, 7.5/10 on IMDb, and 7.4/10 on MAL.

4. Devilman Crybaby

This anime - Devilman Crybaby is so underrated despite having a good story. The animation quality of this anime series is not very top-notch, those who care about the story over animation, just go for it. This series was released in 2018, and it's available on Netflix. This anime only has 10 episodes, so you can watch and finish it in a few hours. This anime is dark, brutal and it shows the terrifying sides of human nature. It has got a rating of 7.6/10 on IMDb & 7.8/10 on MAL.

5. Akame Ga KILL

Akame ga KILL is one of the underrated thriller drama anime series. This anime was released in 2014, and it has 24 episodes. The story of this anime is so good and creepy, filled with many emotional scenes & twists. This anime is available on Crunchyroll and you can also watch it on Ani-One-Asia YouTube channel. This anime has received a rating of 7.4/10 on MAL and 4.6/5 on Crunchyroll.

6. Midori: The Girl in the Freakshow (Chika Gentou Gekiga: Shoujo Tsubaki)

This one is a 47 minutes long anime movie, and it's actually a banned anime. This anime is so dark, brutal & disturbing, and I don't recommend everyone to watch it. This movie was first released in 1992 in Japan, directed by Harada Hiroshi. and got a rating of 6.4/10 on IMDb and 4.73 stars on MAL. This anime forces you to question many things and many scenes are so disturbing, you will wish to stop watching it.

7. Berserk 1997 (Kenpuu Denki Berserk)

Berserk manga is one of the best, one of the most popular manga series of all time. And this anime is the manga adaption of Berserk manga. There's multiple versions of Berserk anime; one is the old one, which was released in 1997, and another one released in 2016, which is not very good (bad adaptation). I will recommend you to watch Berserk (1997), or if possible read it's manga. Berserk (1997) anime has got a rating of 8.59/10 on MAL, and it has a total of 25 episodes.

8. Made in Abyss

Made in Abyss anime is considered as one of the most dark anime, and why am I saying it, you'll find out after watching. This anime is available on many platforms and you can even watch it on YouTube. This anime got a rating of 8.6/10 on MAL, and 8.3/10 on IMDb.

9. Perfect Blue

Perfect Blue is a 1 hour 21 minutes long anime movie, it was released in 1997. This one is a dark psychological thriller anime movie, only for mature audiences, if you're under 18 then I suggest not watching it. This anime is very dark & creepy, it will blow your mind completely. This anime has 8.5/10 rating on MAL, and 8/10 rating on IMDb.

10. Monster

Monster is a dark psychological thriller drama Anime, released in 2004. This anime has a total of 74 episodes, and it's available on Netflix. This anime is a must watch, highly recommended. It has 8.7/10 rating on IMDb, and the writing of this series will blow your mind.
