A Billion Years Ago: The Mischief of Dinosaurs and Dragons

A billion years ago, the world was very different. There were no buildings, no Wi-Fi, and definitely no coffee shops. But what made this time special was the creatures that lived together—dinosaurs and dragons. Imagine time traveling back then. You’d find a world full of wild creatures, trying to get through life, but causing a lot of trouble along the way. These creatures were much more dramatic and prone to mischief than anything today.

The Mischief Makers

In the Mesozoic period, dinosaurs and dragons lived together. They didn’t always get along, but they sure had a lot of fun.

One such dinosaur was Terry, a Triceratops, who lived in the plains. He wasn’t the biggest or the toughest, but he had one special talent: causing trouble. Terry loved to sneak up on other dinosaurs and scare them by jumping out of bushes when they least expected it.

Terry’s best friend was Violet, a clever Velociraptor. She loved playing pranks on other dinosaurs. One time, she convinced a group of Stegosaurus to sing to the trees, thinking it would make the trees grow taller. The Stegosaurus, not the sharpest, actually believed her.

But Terry and Violet weren’t the only troublemakers. Over the volcanic ridge, lived Dragan, a dragon. Dragan had fiery breath, but he wasn’t the best at directions. He could turn any situation into chaos—setting trees on fire by accident or sneezing flames all over a herd of Brontosaurus. Whatever he did, things always went wrong.

One day, these three troublemakers, Terry, Violet, and Dragan, found themselves at a dinosaur talent show.

The Talent Show

It was the first annual Dino-Talent Fest. All dinosaurs were expected to perform. There were usual performances like a Brachiosaurus ballet, Pteranodons flying in perfect formation, and Triceratops trying to play music with their horns, though they preferred grazing.

Now, Terry, Violet, and Dragan weren’t exactly graceful. Terry was clumsy, Violet was slow, and Dragan couldn’t even tie his own shoelaces. But Terry had a plan. He thought they could win by pulling off the most outrageous prank.

“We need to surprise everyone,” Terry said to Violet. “Something so strange, they won’t know whether to laugh or cry. We need dragons.”

Violet was nervous. “But dragons breathe fire, Terry! What if they get mad?”

“We’ll get Dragan to help,” Terry said with a grin. “What’s the worst that could happen?”

Dragan’s Fire Practice

Meanwhile, Dragan was practicing his fire-breathing skills. He had been perfecting his fiery sneezes for days. He could roast marshmallows with a simple cough. He was so focused on practicing that he didn’t notice Terry and Violet sneaking up behind him.

“Hey, Dragan!” Terry called out.

Dragan turned, his eyes wide. “Watch this!” He took a deep breath and aimed at a nearby tree. A fiery sneeze singed the tree’s leaves and turned the top half into crispy charred wood.

Violet and Terry stepped back.

“That’s… impressive,” Terry said, trying to hide his nerves. “But we have a better idea. How about you join our prank for the talent show?”

“A prank?” Dragan blinked. “You want me to prank the other dinosaurs… with fire?”

“No fire,” Terry said quickly. “We need you to pretend to be a dragon, swoop down, and surprise everyone.”

Dragan smiled, showing his sharp teeth. “I’m in! Let’s do it.”

Chaos at the Talent Show

The big day arrived, and dinosaurs from all over gathered for the talent show. Pteranodons soared in the sky, Triceratops honked their horns, and a very confused Stegosaurus tried to play the harp with its tail. But all eyes were on the stage, waiting to see what Terry, Violet, and Dragan would do.

Dragan flapped his wings, creating a small dust storm as he appeared. But something was odd about his flight. He wasn’t flying straight. His wings flapped in the wrong direction, and he kept tilting side to side.

Dragan landed with a loud thud, crashing into a Brachiosaurus mid-ballet. The audience gasped. The graceful Brachiosaurus tumbled, its ballet replaced by a very ungraceful roll across the stage.

Violet quickly stepped forward. “Prepare to meet the dragon of your dreams!” she announced.

But in his excitement, Dragan sneezed a small flame that singed a Pteranodon’s wing. The Pteranodon squawked, flapping wildly to put out the fire.

Terry, hiding behind a large rock, couldn’t hold back his laughter. The audience looked confused, not knowing if this was part of the show.

Terry jumped out and shouted, “Surprise!” He pressed a button, and suddenly, plants began to grow all over the stage. Flowers and vines erupted, turning the stage into a jungle. The Triceratops troupe started to panic, thinking they were trapped. The Stegosaurus began singing to the plants, hoping it would make them grow taller.

The talent show turned into a complete disaster. Did Terry, Violet, and Dragan win? No. But they certainly made an impression, and they were never invited back to another talent show.

The End… Or Is It?

Even though the talent show was a disaster, Terry, Violet, and Dragan remained the best of friends. They didn’t need a victory to feel accomplished. A little chaos, lots of laughs, and occasional singed tails were all they needed.

In the world of dinosaurs and dragons, life went on—full of pranks, fire, and endless mischief.
