TSG Developing eSports Season for Destiny 2
Destiny 2 community wants to start hosting a competitive season of uniquely challenged tournaments

Tango Smash Gaming, a Community of Destiny 2 players and Clans, is currently developing an annual competition season. The Season is predicted to start in March of 2023 and will be hosted on Tournament website Battlefy. TSG officials said their goal is to build a non-toxic competitive space for players to participate in.
Community Leader, DidTheTango, spoke to us about other players reaching out to her on social media about hosting potential tournaments. "I opened my messages to see a number of questions, but I noticed clan competition was mentioned a lot." DidTheTango has always wanted to host tournaments, however she has only had the chance to join them from other sources.
"When I saw that players wanted a Tournament, I started to think it over. I reached out to my community leaders and asked what their thoughts were on the idea." According to DidTheTango, her community deputies are interested in the eSports like season. They showed some excitement at some of the tournament ideas she even had.
"One tournament we are working on is called a Shotgun Smash. We plan to have only shotguns be used during a rumble like match, but all HUDs must be turned off," she says. The idea of a shotgun only tournament does sound unique, however some believe that a challenge like this could be too much for potential participants. One member, who is unnamed at this time, even mentions it could be difficult to start a season with something that the players aren't expecting.
"I think starting off with a tournament like Shotgun Smash could be risky, especially when players are most likely looking for a more mainstream competition."

Despite what others are saying, DidTheTango believes that an annual tournament season is exactly what her community needs. "It will keep the community active," she says. "even when players think the PvE content is lacking, they always fall into the Crucible."
When asked if she plans to make Community only Tournaments, she answered fairly quickly. "Of course! I plan to dedicate some of our season to TSG community members only. Since we are planning to include more clans in our community, I could see clan battles being a focus as the community grows."
When talking about involving the other clans, we asked her if she could elaborate more on this subject. "I'm planning to open up to other clans that play Destiny 2 about being involved in an annual event, yes." She says, obviously very excited about how this idea could play out. "I want to encourage clans to help each other out and to be more friendly with one another. I think one of the best ways to do that is give them a reason to get together."
She goes on to talk about how the Clan Vs. Clan tournaments could evolve into Clan Vs. Clan Raid runs. "I believe we all want to et better at the game. We have a better chance of that if we open up the clan to friendly competition. Who knows, maybe all the raid runs we worked on will result in a World's First one day or our Tournaments can be the opening door to eSports in our community. We all have to start somewhere, you know?"
At this time, all Tournaments are going to be free to enter. DidTheTango also mentioned prizes to winners as the competition grows, and even has one prize valued at $30 lined up for the first competition. "I want to make sure it's fun, so I don't see us charging a fee to enter unless we want to use that money for charity."
She also talks about how she wants to make sure the players are involved as much as possible through Sponsored Prizes. "Any prizes that we have are all donated by players of the community. We don't want businesses coming in and offering one amazing grand prize that could put us over the legal limit given to players by Bungie."
Bungie has a Competition License that is given to all players of Destiny 2. However, they make it very clear that competitions have set limitations on Compensation Prizes. DidTheTango talked a lot about how Bungie could impact something like a player run tournament.
"The last thing I want to do is get on their bad side. I've loved their games since I started gaming, and I look up to them as a copmany. They are one of the only good guys out there, in my opinion, that are making games that feel good to play. You know they are trying their best to take care of their own, and we want to do the same with our community." - DidTheTango, Clan Leader of Tango Smash Gaming
