Top 5 Nintendo Switch Games
My opinion after hours of Nintendo gameplay.
Top Five Games For Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch in my opinion is Nintendo’s greatest platform yet! Before you buy any games take a look at my quick reviews here!
Animal Crossing
Let’s get the obvious out of the way. This game came out during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic that has most people pulling their hair out with boredom.
When people caught wind of this game you couldn’t find the Switch for months. My favorite part about AC (Animal Crossing) is the monthly or bi-monthly updates. I always feel like once I start to get bored with the species and scenery, the update will spark my interest again until the next update. It’s no secret that this game was likely the most hyped up game in the short history of the Nintendo Switch. This game gives you the ability to connect with friends and family near or far. If only I could get a headset for this game! (hint, hint Nintendo). Now, I must admit I cannot compare New Horizons to any other AC game because this was my first! I was not disappointed but truthfully had to do A LOT of research to get the full effect of the game. If you are new to the Animal Crossing world, you better start to read up you don’t want to miss out on some of these cool features like how to grow a money tree for example. I like to think this game is like a cutesy version of Sims, minus the full control of your character. My favorite thing to do is search for and collect materials to build new items for my house! Remember to try and match all your furniture so you get the highest score possible when they rate your home. I also really enjoy fishing in all the different bodies of water on my island. Although you’ll catch a crap ton of sea bass, it’s worth it when you get those big catches! My biggest tip for you here is don’t pretend your spouse actually wants to play the game when you know they aren’t interested. Otherwise, you’ll end up with an ugly unused tent for the rest of your island’s history.
2. Super Mario Odyssey
Where to begin with this one? Super Mario Odyssey is basically Super Mario Galaxy on steroids. So if you were a big Galaxy fan like me, you’ll dive hours deep into this game on the first day. If you have played either Galaxy, Luigi’s Mansion or any non “Mario Bros” style game then bring your thinking cap. You probably already know how to think like the game-makers and let me tell you, you’ll need it for this game. Whether it’s spinning on a lighting up flower stem or ground pounding to discover another dimension, you’ll need to really think out of the box in this game. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have to watch at least 20 youtube videos to figure some of these moons out but try not to! The best part about Odyssey is the new yet nostalgic feeling the game provides, with amazing 3d graphics and being able to easily control you point of view, Super Mario Odyssey takes number one in my book of switch games. It’s a challenge for sure, some of the moons take a lot of brain power to figure out, but that’s what kept me going back for more. I loved that I didn’t beat this game in a week, it made it worth all $60! Now we can only hope for a Super Mario Odyssey 2 that is just as impressive as the Super Mario Galaxy sequel!
3. Luigi’s Mansion
This was my first Luigi’s Mansion game and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Any time a game has me wanting to go back and play the older versions, it is worth the play. My wife and I are constantly looking for Nintendo games with a decent two player complex. Unlike Mario Odyssey and Mario Galaxy where the second player can only do two or three things. In this game the second player is a necessity it feels like. I haven’t played one player yet but I can imagine it would be difficult without having Gooigi (second player) so if you have another Mario geek in your life I highly suggest recruiting them for this game play and if you choose to, make sure you bring your best team effort, you’ll need lots of communication! I really had to use my brain with this game so I wouldn’t play it if you’re looking for something to mindlessly play. I will say the downfall of this game was I flew right through it. I feel like the game wasn’t long enough and often times was much too simple for someone like me who knows how these Mario games work. If you have played every Luigi’s Mansion game before this I can imagine that you will likely also “fly” right through. I really enjoyed finding the quirks in this game. The fact you can basically suck everything up with the vacuum is entertaining and yet thrilling due to the fact they had hid objects and ghosts behind and under random items. So, my advice to you is suck up everything you can or something that you’d expect Nintendo to hide something behind. As usual, figuring out how to beat the bosses is the most satisfying part of the game. Is there any better feeling than figuring out their weakness WITHOUT looking it up (guilty)? No, there is nothing better. If you’re looking to step outside your typical Mario game but still get the Mario feel, this is the one for you!
4. Mario Rabidds Kingdom Battle
I live to find great turn-based strategy games out there in the game universe. So, when I stumbled across one that involved Mario characters and on the switch I couldn’t pass it up. In fact, this game made me interested in buying Rabbid’s games! Although I haven’t quite done my research on some of the features in this game, I have figured out what is most necessary to win. There is something about picking the perfect combination of characters strengths and weaknesses that has me always crawling back to this game. The most important thing you need to know is the way the patterns work, I have a puzzle brain so this was a lot of fun for me but, if you hate puzzles this won’t be the game for you (if you enjoyed the toad switch game you will like this one)!. I really enjoyed going back to the beginning of the game after unlocking so many moves, weapons and characters. After playing this game I know if a Rabbids game comes out for the switch I’ll be buying it. This game is packed with content. Some of these battles even took me a few days. I never complain when I take a while to beat a game, it makes it worth the price! The longer it takes to beat, the better it is in my opinion and this one took me a while! If another Rabbid’s/Mario collaboration comes out, you know I’ll be first in line.
5. Ring Fit
I must say, I never thought an exercise game would make my list but here we are. During the beginning of quarantine I was doing 3 separate youtube workout videos a day but it clearly was not working. Finally, the Ring Fit was back in stock so I thought id give it a try. I was expecting something like the Wii fit but boy was I wrong! This game kicked my butt all while keeping me engaged. Similar to Kingdom Battle, this is a turn-based battle game when you play the game mode. Using all different types of exercises with different benefits and levels of power, you are trying to defeat the monsters to eventually defeat Dragaux the meat-head jock of a monster. As you play daily you begin to level up and unlock new exercises that I promise will leave you out of breath. After two weeks of using Ring Fit I was already down 7 pounds and I felt AMAZING. I was always going over the suggested amount of time because I was having a blast sending those monster flying. As you begin to unlock exercises and other levels, you will also begin to unlock recipes for drinks that each have a different benefit during your battles. You collect the ingredients for these while running through difference courses. I used these drinks as secret weapons to help me destroy monsters quicker! The difference between Ring Fit and Wii Fit is the leg strap and flexible ring you use to make sure you are accurately completing the exercises. These make it nearly impossible to cheat through these courses and they are very comfortable and easy to use and also the most important thing they are VERY durable. I would know, I’ve flung that ring across my apartment plenty of times after an exhausting loss. If you aren’t into the game play you can also customize a workout or my favorite go for a nice jog. Nicely executed Nintendo!
