The Letter Guide: Zachary x Hannah Route
Spoilers Ahead
Introduction!
The Letter is one of the most complex and well-written visual novels that I've ever come across. What was once a humble Kickstarter project has proven to be a masterpiece, at least in my opinion. The choices in this game are incredible, with over 32 routes possible. Not only do they cater to most shipping tastes, but they also prioritise character development over romance. The true ending is beautifully tragic, but despite this being a horror story, you can still have your happy ending.
One of these happy endings is between freelance photographer, Zachary Steele and socialite Hannah Wright. And I love this game, and it's sorta painful seeing other players struggle to get the ending or romance that they want. So I've decided to write a series of guides to help other players with their routes for The Letter.
You can play Isabella's chapter however you want for this. For Hannah and Zachary to romance, there's a lot of choices to consider. You want Luke and Hannah's relationship to be high enough to keep Hannah alive and the relationship low enough to keep Hannah and Luke to divorce. Here's my suggestion.
In Isabella's chapter, show the letter to Rose. This will lower Hannah's relationship with Luke by 3 points. You don't have to do this either, as you can always lower Luke and Hannah's relationship later through other means. If you're also planning to boost Isabella's relationship with Marianne to unlock their friendship epilogue, then don't show the letter to rose.
Choices to Make in Hannah's Chapter
After Isabella's chapter, your goal is to keep Hannah alive, but also not make her possessed. I would select the choices that boost Luke's relationship with Luke just so you can be extra sure that Hannah does not get killed in this chapter.
To keep Hannah's Luke relationship high enough to keep Hannah alive, choose these options when they show up.
- Defend myself.
- You'll be a great father. (Will only show up if Isabella didn't show the letter to Rose)
- I was tending to the gardens.
- Do not open the hatch!
- Perhaps a break is needed. (Necessary to unlock the romance.)
- Stop It.
- Prove it.
Before the house party, there will be an important choice that will change the whole course of the story. You can play about and experiment with the game choices if you want to or just want to enjoy the fun banter the game has, but by far the most important choices in Hannah's chapters are; do not open the hatch, perhaps a break is needed, stop it and prove it. Whatever you do: DO NOT OPEN THE HATCH!
If you've done all that correctly, you should unlock a really sweet CGI with Zachary and Hannah dancing in the moonlight.
Choices to Make in Zachary's Chapter
Select these choices as soon as they come up!
- Show the photo to Hannah.
- I think that one looks cute.
- Never Mind
- I'm a friend of Hannah. (I believe this also lowers Luke's relationship with Hannah)
- Keep Looking For Ash (This option ensures Zachary's survival!)
The Rest Is Up to You!
Once you've made all these choices, you're pretty much set to go with the Zachary/Hannah romance. The only thing that may get in the way is that Hannah's relationship with Marianne is either higher or at maximum level. I found out today that if both Hannah's relationship bar with both Marianne and Zachary are maxed, then Marianne gets priority. You can lower Marianne's relationship with Hannah by choosing to explore the ground floor in Marianne's chapter instead of the first floor or you can kill her off. But I love Marianne and want her to live so I would recommend the first option.
I hope you enjoyed this guide and found it useful!
