The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom

My thoughts on the latest Zelda game

At long last, the newest game to the Zelda franchise is here! I was super stoked for the game. I have maybe sunk 100 hours into the game so far which doesn't seem like nearly enough.

The game was finally released on May 12th, 2023. This post took me too long to write but I had to play more of the game before I could pen this out. Now all this being said, this is just one game fanatic's opinion.

The reason why I decided to write this, is because I honestly feel like I have no reason to play Breath of the Wild anymore. Tears of The Kingdom is a more improved version of Breath of The Wild. It fixed the fan problems with the old games and completely reidentified the Legend of Zelda franchise. (My son thinks the other Zelda is better though)

I love the story in this game which is why I fall in love with some video games. It adds on to the pre-existing story of Breath of the Wild but leaves it open for players who have never played the first game.

I loved the inclusion of different heights where you can find floating islands to explore or creep into the depths of Hyrule. That was a wonderful addition to the game in my honest opinion.

The addition of new enemies was well received in my opinion. A lot of the new creatures don't have names yet so I added a link to another article that I found listing all of them.

I got sick of fighting the same enemies over and over again in Breath of the Wild and when the Lyonel's were too easy for me, I lost interest in the game.

The addition of Zonai devices stole my heart. There were countless times that I wished for a cooking pot and guess what? With the Zonai devices, you can cook on the fly with ease or build yourself a moving vehicle or so much more. There are twenty-seven different devices to find throughout the game to help you throughout your adventure.

Zonai Devices

They fixed the original fan complaint with no temples and too many shrines by adding the Wind Temple , Fire Temple, Water Temple , Lightning Temple , and Spirit Temple which absolutely delighted me as those were the highlights in previous games for myself and other avid Zelda fans.

They brought back old characters from Breath of The Wild that were important to the main storyline such as Purah and Sidon, and Yunobo. But as I stated earlier they made the game easy to play if you have never played Breath of The Wild before.

I still think that the hookshot would be an excellent addition to this game in my own personal opinion or even a grappling hook but we all can't get what we want. I have written about that before. You can read that post below.

I do have to say as much as I love the new open world concept, I miss the linear games such as Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. The story and concept of those games was utterly fantastic in my mind and I wish that Nintendo still created Zelda games following the linear concept.

All this being said, I truly love this new Zelda game. I have not finished the game yet, I still have a few places left to explore. The story is phenomenal, the graphics are fantastic, and the new additions to the game were well received in my opinion.

I hope I haven't spoiled too much Tears of the Kingdom for you.

What did you think of the latest game in the Zelda franchise? Should Nintendo stick to the open world concept or go back to the linear games? Let me know what you think in the comments.
