The Dark Knight & His Pokemon Team

Batman’s Pokémon Team

By Steve BrewerPublished 4 months ago 3 min read

I recently watched a video on YouTube in which the creator discussed his picks for a team for the Dark Knight. I thought it was an interesting concept and was excited to see the team, which turned out to be mostly bat Pokémon.

I was a little disappointed but instead of leaving a negative comment I thought to myself how would I construct a team for Batman? After spending some time trying different Pokémon and doing some research I finally settled on a team I like.

Before we get into the team let me first give a few disclaimers, provisos, neuroticisms:

Disclaimers/Provisos/Neuroticisms

  1. To try to keep from the teams focusing heavily on one or two generations I am setting a limit of one to two Pokemon from a single generation on a team.
  2. This team is a casual build and not intended to be competitive. I will also be listing Pokemon only, no natures, items, or moves will be included in the lists.
  3. Despite the legendary status of Batman, I did not include mythical or legendaries on his team. I don’t like to use Mythical or Legendaries and try to spotlight other Pokemon instead.
  4. The team is presented in generational order (I put Galarian Weezing first since it is Weezing, I’m weird like that).
Special thanks to mypokemonteam.com for their amazing website!

I always try to balance the weaknesses of a team and, as you can see above, I was able to successfully balance out most of the weaknesses of this team.

Each Pokémon was selected for specific reasons which I will explain below. I was aiming for Pokemon that fit a night aesthetic, crime fighting team, rich lifestyle, or any combination of these.

Let’s break each pick down:

First up on the team is Galarian Weezing, who I selected for two purposes. First, it helped nullify a few of the weaknesses the team had. Second, it is a literal smokescreen for Bruce. It represents his past as an heir to a large corporation, but can be used in his crime fighting for convenient smokescreens to help him get away.

Second is Umbreon who, like Weezing, serves a few purposes. First, Umbreon helped to balance a few weaknesses the team had when I put a few of the Pokémon I wanted to include on it in. Second, I see it as a symbol of Bruce’s journey. The innocent Eevee taking on a dark persona. His parents gave Bruce Eevee before their deaths and the two bonded while he began his nighttime crime fighting. Eevee then evolved while out with Bruce one night.

Starting off the middle of the team is Sableye who is a Pokémon I immediately associated with Bruce and, like Weezing and Umbreon, serves a few roles. First, it symbolizes Bruce’s wealth and opulence with its Pokédex entries stating it literally eats precious gems. Second, it’s Prankster abilities allows it to unleash status afflicting moves which Batman uses to help him subdue bad guys.

Finishing the middle of the team is Batman’s ace, Lucario. It is the perfect Pokémon for Bruce, a steadfast guardian who can mega evolve which resembles it putting on a superhero costume. Lucario fights crime side by side with Bruce as its mega self while accompanying him during the day as its regular form.

Now we get to the answer to everyone’s question “WHERE’S THE BAT?”. The bat that scared Bruce as a kid was none other than a Noibat, who he befriended and caught at his father’s insistence. Noivern has been with Bruce for years and helps him safely navigate the rooftops of Gotham at night.

Last but not least we have Gholdengo, a representation of Bruce’s wealth and who helps Bruce in his crime fighting by luring thieves and pickpockets with its gold coins before Bruce swoops in.
