The Assassin’s Creed franchise has been an evergreen presence in the illustrious gaming landscape for some time! It has transported us to a crusading Jerusalem, we have ascended Rome’s legendary Colosseum, desperately equivocated ammunition on the primordial theatre of operations of the American Civil War, intoxicated ourselves and plundered alongside scandalous pirates, blustered the commodious Bastille and executed a venturesome leap of faith from the colossal transcendence of Big Ben! More recently the franchise has evolved and undergone reconfiguration. Equipped with a contemporary composition, Cleopatra’s exalted Egypt has been traversed, the mysteriously mythological history of the Peloponnesian War was prospected and now, the unsurpassable ferocity of the Viking’s has been unleashed upon us! But which missions emerge with distinction, as the greatest quests throughout this timeline traversing series?

Arsuf (Assassin’s Creed):

Relentlessly scrimmage your way through factions of Saracens and Crusaders in this bloodthirsty mission from the original Assassin’s Creed. After numerous skirmishes and ambushes from those irritatingly laser eyed archers, King Richard materialises against a depressingly caliginous background of smothering smog and enforces a deadly duel between Robert de Sable and Altair, logically determining that the victor is indeed not traitorous!

Pax Romana (Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood):

A contemplative challenger for the greatest mission in the franchise, in what arguably, could also be the greatest instalment in the Assassin’s Creed sequence. After three years, the legendary Ezio Auditore has located his nemesis Cesare Borgia at the Siege of Viana. After narrowly evading cannonball fire, destroying hordes of Spanish swordsmen and hunting the absconding Borgia on horseback, Ezio and his antagonist crusade to the grave on the burning battlefield.

Battle of Bunker Hill (Assassin’s Creed 3):

In many ways, Assassin’s Creed 3 was firmly burdened with the task of following the illustrious Ezio. However, this episode in the Assassin’s Creed run provided some memorable moments, not least the infamous Battle of Bunker Hill. Having successfully alleviated the Templar John Pitcairn from his concealment, Connor Kenway uses the discombobulating fervour of the battle to execute his assassination.

Do Not Go Gently (Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag):

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag arrived with critical acclaim, heralding an invigorating and sharp revolution for the series. Not only encompassing a vividly stimulating narrative, incorporating scandalising treachery with strikingly engaging scenery, but also enjoying memorable Blackbeard appearances. He featured heavily in the mission Do Not Go Gently. Edward Kenway sails to North Carolina in order to convince the intimidating pirate to return to the West Indies, before being savagely ambushed, and eventually overwhelmed…

Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained (Assassin’s Creed II):

This mission is the definition of iconic, featuring Leonardo da Vinci, Venice and an airborne Ezio! The enigmatic assassin requires legendary Leonardo’s prototyped flying machine in order to access the Palazzo Ducale. Upon plunging unflinchingly from a sickeningly altitudinous tower with what must have looked like suicidal intentions, Ezio prematurely detected that the maverick device was intended for travelling only diminishing distance. What better way to rectify this than to light bonfires across the city, allowing the preposterous machinery to maintain its required altitude. Emblematic assignments such as this developed the Assassin’s Creed franchise into the behemoth it is presently!

Confrontation (Assassin’s Creed Unity):

A criminally overlooked entry, is Assassin’s Creed Unity! What is unanimous though, is the inclusion of this mission. Hunting the murderer of Mirabeau, assassin Arno Dorian pursues a venomous trail, culminating in the revelation and identification of Bellec as the insurgent. A monumental and catastrophic engagement supersedes, one of the most exceedingly engrossing battles of the franchise!

Final Act (Assassin’s Creed Syndicate):

If Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has a legitimate criticism, it’s the historically accurate depiction of Victorian London! It indulged dispiritingly in the melancholic implementation of a cinereal skyline and a suffocating atmosphere which deliberately encompassed the merciless labouring conditions of the Industrial Revolution. This particular mission however, engulfed the duskiness in a scintillating pyre. Assassin Jacob Fyre was more of a swaggering blunderer than his previous exterminating counterparts, but here must utilise stealth and secrecy to infiltrate the Alhambra Music Hall and assassinate Maxwell Roth. After negotiating contaminated beverages, disposing of some brutish degenerates and appropriating the stage set, Roth delivers a post assassination monologue of the utmost amusement!

Kyrie Eleison (Assassin’s Creed Rogue):

Featuring significantly once more in this entry from Assassin’s Creed Rogue is the fateful Piece of Eden! Taking place in Lisbon, Portugal, Shay Cormac successfully locates the revered artefact, only for it to mysteriously disintegrate when liberated from its pedestal, causing unconditional destruction due to the corresponding earthquake that ravaged the city. However it did also provide the entertaining sequence of escaping from the collapsing convent!

Honour, Lost and Won (Assassin’s Creed: Revelations):

The final game featuring Ezio Auditore! Disguised, the assassin must tail the Janissaries to their barracks, discover the location of some weaponry and finally, eliminate the corrupt Tarik Barleti. After clandestine cloak-and-dagger infiltration, as well as myriads of surreptitious earwigging, Ezio eradicates his prey, only to morosely ascertain his innocence. Grievously, Barleti’s demise is fait accompli.

The Lizard’s Mask (Assassin’s Creed: Origins):

In appropriately eccentric fashion, Assassin’s Creed: Origins features a pestilential engagement with a gargantuan serpent! Outfitted with a bow of light and a quiver of resplendent projectiles, the mountainous snake coils itself surreptitiously around ancient pillars, and even sputum’s venomous contagion in your direction! Beware, who would have thought snakes would be so sneaky?

Port of Lawlessness (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey):

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is bold and beautiful, with its exemplary recreation of Ancient Greece and colossal open world environment conducive to a thrilling gaming experience. In this one, in order to significantly weaken Monger’s bind on Korinthia, Kassandra must infiltrate, assassinate and incinerate! Combine that with prisoner rescues and executing aggressive bandits alongside a mysterious Spartan commando named Brasidas and you have the recipe for an enjoyable and entertaining mission!

A Brewing Storm (Assassin’s Creed Valhalla):

Finally, the most recent and potentially vicious entry from the Assassin’s Creed franchise! Interestingly, it delves into the ungovernable and hysterically berserk era of the Viking! A Brewing Storm commences in your Ravensthorpe settlement, and culminates with an inordinate skirmish with Dag. After outmanoeuvring the shield parrying, double axe wielding titan, the player arrives by a crucial decision, that being whether to reacquaint the torpedoed Dag with this vanquished metal piercer or to deprive him. Bearing in mind, this choice drastically affects the games crescendo!
