Basketball is a sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages around the world. It is an exciting team sport that uses two hoops, a basket and a ball. A game of basketball involves two teams of five players each who compete against each other trying to score the most points. To start a game of basketball, both teams line up at the centre circle and a referee throws the ball into the air to begin play. Players then jump and fight to gain possession of the ball; the team that gains control of the ball will then attempt to shoot or pass the ball to their teammates. Teams move the ball up and down the court by dribbling, passing, or shooting. The goal is to try to get the ball into the hoop on the other side of the court for a score. When a team is in possession of the ball, they must stay inboundsuntil they shoot, pass or lose control of the ball. Players can move around the court without dribbling, but they need to pass the ball from player to player in order to move beyond the half-court line. When a player attempts a shot at the hoop, their team will gain points depending on the position of the shot. Shots taken inside the three-point line will give two points, and shots taken outside the three-point line will give three points. The team that has the most points at the end of the game, when the buzzer has sounded, will win. However, scoring points isn’t the only way to win a game of basketball. Teams must also prevent their opponents from scoring by preventing them from shooting, passing the ball or getting close enough to the hoop to take a shot. Players can do this by blocking shots, stealing and interceptingpasses, and by using defensive strategies. Basketball is a great way to get active, make friends and learn how to play a team sport.1.
