Rogue is Sometimes the way that's Needed

Rogue is another installment into the Assassin’s Creed World. Here we meet Shay Patrick Cormac who is a new recruit into the Colonial Brotherhood of Assassins. His potential is however skewed by his insubordination. During his training they receive news from another Assassin Adéwalé. According to him while searching for a Precursor temple which houses a Piece of Eden. The Hatian city Port-au-Prince was destroyed by an earthquake.

Because of his experience with captaining ships Cormac is enlisted to help with an investigation. An investigation into the Templar interests of the Precursor artifact and the manuscript that are connected to the Temple.

Disguised as a Templar courier he manages to deliver the artifact and manuscript to Benjamin Franklin. With his experiments with electricity on the artifact is able to make a map. This shows the locations of the Precursor Temples around the world. Finding that one is in Lisbon. Cormack is sent to retrieve the Piece of Eden by Achilles.

By this point though Cormack is questioning the motives of the Assassins. Having Rogue like thoughts. This is after seeing their refusal to talk with the Templars. As well as being asked to kill an already dying Templar Commander. His mindset is definitely uneasy.

However, Lisbon is what solidifies those rogue thoughts. While trying to retrieve the Piece of Eden a massive earthquake is triggered. Destroying the city solidifying what Adéwalé had reported to happen in Port-au-Prince. After his own report of what happened he is horrified at Davenport. Achilles still intends to continue his search for the Pieces of Eden no matter the dangers it poses.

Shay then steals the Manuscript and tries to escape with it from the Homestead. He ends up being cornered by members of the Brotherhood. With no other way out Shay intends to commit suicide by jumping off the cliff. Instead he is shot and left for dead before he has the chance to destroy the Manuscript.

Finding himself adrift in New York he takes to being a Vigilante. Cleaning up the streets from gangs. During this he catches the attention of Colonel George Monro. Monro convinces Shay he can improve the lives of others.

There after meeting Chistopher Gist he retakes The Morrigan back from the Assassins. He learns that they are still going forward with the plan to find the Pieces of Eden. Then Agrees to help his new found allies. Despite the fact that they are in fact Templars.

Due to finding out that the Assassins are still going after the Pieces of Eden, Shay views them as a threat. Committing himself to the Templar Order to hunt them down. After killing Assassins Le Chasseur and Kesegowaase, Shay is fully inducted into the Templar Order. By none other than Grand Master Haytham Kenway.

After Shay kills Adéwalé, Hope, and Louis-Joseph Gaultier de La Vérendrye he only has two left. Two senior members of the Assassins in America. Achilles and Shay’s once best friend Liam O’Brien. Tracking them down to the Arctic with Haytham at his side. They have located another Temple. After fighting and taking care of other Assassins who were with them.

Shay and Haytham enter the Temple finding Achilles and Liam. Achilles comes to the realization that Shay was right and didn’t just go Rogue for no reason. That the artifacts are meant to stabilize not be used for power. He attempts to stop Liam taking vengeance, and ends with the artifact being destroyed. This in turn triggers a third earthquake.

The four are in a race to escape the decimating earthquake. In the midst of the escape Shay and Liam fight one another on the ice. They fall after Liam is fatally wounded. Shay ends up making it back to his ship just in time. Haytham over powers Achilles. However, Shay saves his old mentor by convincing Haytham to allow him to live. Keeping the knowledge alive so no other Assassins will attempt the same mistake.

Haytham cripples Achilles then sets sail home.

During the next series of events it’s seen that Shay has been tasked to retrieve the Precursor artifact. He spends most of his life searching for it. During the final memories it reveals a mission to escort Benjamin Franklin through Paris. In search of the Precursor box. Which is in the possession of Charles Dorian. Father of Arno Dorian. More on him in the next Assassin’s Creed. Cormac Murders Dorian and takes the box, becoming a senior member of the Templar Order.

Outside of the animus, while the player is going through Cormac’s memories for Abstergo. It triggers a hidden memory that infects the Animus server. Immediately Abstergo goes under lock down. The player must then rush around cleaning the Animus server by living out Cormac’s later memories.

Later a senior member of the Templar Order commands the player to upload Shay’s memories to the Assassins servers. To weaken them and show them how Achilles came close to destroying the world. Also how the Assassins betrayed Shay making him go Rogue.

In response the Brotherhood cuts off their communications. In a mid-credits scene, Juhani Osto Berg thanks the player for all of their help. Then gives them an ultimatum. Either join the Templar order, or die. The scene fades to black before the decision is shown.
