Review: kingdom come deliverance.

Thoughts, trial and error.

As an avid gamer, I’m always on the look out for games that can hook the player. Games like Skyrim, Red dead redemption 2, Witcher 3. Kingdom come deliverance has recently been added to my list of must play games.

The game is set in 1403 Bohemia during the reign of King Wenceslaus IV. A war has begun that you as the main character Henery, a blacksmiths son must learn to survive in this castle age simulated experience.

At first when I stumbled across this game I was sceptical at best, but was willing to explore something new. Pretty early on in what I consider to be the games training ground right before the main story kicked off, I realised that this game was going to be chalanging. I did not know what I was getting myself into.

On my first attempt I didn’t get very far as I had attempted to rush the story line, losing any chance I had of really understanding the complex gaming mechanics in the game. So I put it down for a time.

Recently giving it another go I’ve found that taking one’s time to learn about how everything works leads to a successful play through. And by trial and error the combat system can eventually be mastered.

On the combat system, the game didn’t actually teach you everything, I leaned best in the arena by watching how the captain deflected my attacks and the stances they were in, eventually I had leveled up my combat abilities, best the captain and hand to hand and sword on sword and was confident enough in my ability to combat the story. Thank god I did.

The game I found to be very immersive, each weapon has its own leveling system, clothes and armour have durability and can be repaired.

Making money honestly can be difficult unless you don’t mind getting your hands dirty.

With the story, there seems to be different way to complete most quests. The battles are chalanging but often avoidable given the right level in 3 different areas. The battles you can’t avoid leave you feeling well accomplished once completed.

Once you have finished the main part of the beginning and find yourself at the mill, I would recommend taking on the role of a thief to begin making money so you can get weapons and armour easily. Avail yourself of the bathhouses for they replenish you health and energy. Always carry atleast 20 bandages when travelling invade you survive a fight and need to stop the bleeding, otherwise you will die. Not having them is a mistake, get a dagger for takedowns. Learn to sneak, don’t give up on lock picking as it will get easier. The player learns and gets better at things. Don’t enter the service of the balif until you feel compitant with a sword and bow, and as early as convenient buy your own horse, with lots of storage. You can store items from your inventory on your horse freeing up your space making you able to fast travel, I think being lighter actually makes combat easier. As for combat, don’t let your stamina run out, step away before it does and go back in and continue the fight. Helps to lower their stamina. This slowing to get past their guard. And dodging backwards then back in during their attack is often a great way to catch your enemies off guard, but the but the NPc will learn to fend off such attacks if used to often. Tricker in battle also works, attacking can also be blocking.

Kingdom come can be played in multiple ways though the story will ultimately leave you feeling ripped waiting for another game. However like most games it save before the last part of the game so you can alway reload and just have fun playing around. I managed to play this game for about 13 hours straight without gettting bored so all in all I would recommend this game to any who loved Skyrim, or anyone who love castle age open world games in general.
