'PUBG' Is Disappointing Xbox Players

The recent release of 'PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' to Xbox is leaving much to be desired for players.

The game that has captured the attention of PC gamers has come to Xbox consoles. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is a 100 player free-for-all game that has been highly popular on PC for the past few months. This game allows players to play solo or in teams. The objective is to be the last ones standing in a large scale battle, where the playing area gets smaller with each passing minute and areas where artillery rain fire from above. The game is a fast pasted shooter with countless options for the player.

The objective is simple. First, jump from the plane onto the map. Second, you need to find gear. All players start with the same amount of equipment, which is nothing. Third, players need to survive. The last person or team standing wins. While playing, players are able to find weapons, clothing, and weapon modifications help ensure their survival.

The recent release has been met with excitement and anticipation in the wake of its success on PC. This game leads with big promises for its new Xbox audience.

However, Xbox players were met with disappointment upon playing the game on its new platform. The graphics are not living up to expectations; rather the game looks like it belongs in the early 2000s instead of on a console that regularly presents games in 4k. Also, the system for modifying and adding attachments to weapons is… complicated and frustrating. It is clear that going from a keyboard to controller has been a challenge. The problems with the inventory system slow down a players gameplay, which is disappointing in a game where response time is essential for success.

Not only are the systems complicated and the graphics not living up to Xbox’s standard but there are also gameplay issues. In a game where the ability to land anywhere on the map is essential, glitches that cause all 100 players to land in the same area is chaotic. In addition, players are constantly being randomly removed from the game, even in the middle of a match. It is possible to get back into the game afterwards but it is an annoying problem that needs to be fixed immediately.

With the difficulties that PUBG is having on Xbox's platform, we begin to wonder if there is a better option.

'Fortnite: Battle Royale' is just as fun, with less issues.

Also, available on Xbox is Fortnite, which offers a similar battle royale-mode to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. It offers a similar system that offers players the same large scale battle as PUBG, but with more refinement.

Fortnite itself is in Beta, which is approximately the same price as PUBG. The game itself is about building forts and protecting it from hordes of zombies. However, Fortnite has come out with an additional battle royale-mode.

Fortnite has some minor differences to the widely popular PUBG. Its artistic style is more like a cartoon than the real world look of PUBG, but its systems are more streamlined. Players do not need to worry about modification or building an optimized weapon. Weapons that are found during game play stay the same for every player. In addition, Fortnite allows its players to gather resources and build. Players are able to build walls in the middle of a fight and even make forts to hunker down in.

Other than that, the games are the same. Jump down onto the map with nothing, find equipment and survive. Fortnite: Battle Royale is a 100 player game, where the map shrinks as time goes on, similarly to PUBG.

Another point in Fortnite’s favour is that the battle royale is technically free. It comes with another game.

For Xbox players, who have been playing Fortnite's Battle Royale in the wait for PUBG, have been disappointed. Some are even opting not to purchase PUBG over the streamlined Fortnite.

With that said, both games offer players a fun gaming experience. PUBG is highly enjoyable and allow for some hilarious moments but for those who already have Fortnite, the lure of PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds is not there.

Hopes are that PUBG will improve their gameplay quickly to ensure the contentment of their players. As of right now, it may be a better option to play the game on the platform where it was originally designed and released, the computer.

In the mean time, Fortnite can give players the massive matches they want in addition to a new game they can enjoy playing.
