Princess Peach: Showtime!

Nintendo has always been my favorite gaming console. The cool animations and the fun games with their adventurous levels that take you beyond the imagination is just the tip of why I enjoy it so much. I don’t know about you, but I also love when a favorite character gets some shine. Princess Peach is a favorite among the girl gaming community, and some boys too. So when Nintendo dropped Princess Peach: Showtime! for the Switch, it was met with much excitement. I had to get it and experience the hype myself.

Princess Peach gets invited to the theater by her toad friend and upon arrival to the show, an evil witch appears and takes over everything. It then becomes her mission to restore the theater so the show can go on. Princess Peach is then granted some sparkle magic from the theater's guardian to assist her with success. The magic helps her find hidden treasures and transform the theater staff and objects into useful resources. There are four shows on each floor that Princess Peach must restore with different genres that come into play with each adventure.

Before I go any further into the game I must mention the bright, detailed, fun animations that tie everything together. Each character contributes unique colors and themes that enhance your experience. There are also an array of cute dresses you can buy Princess Peach with earned coins and the mini clips featured in each level are captivating as well.

She changes character outfits as the level progresses which gives her a special ability necessary to complete that mission. Princess Peach transforms into a dashing thief, patisserie, cowgirl, swordfighter, and many many more. Princess Peach is not only girly and cute but also a tough fighter who is not scared of a challenge.

The visuals make the game enticing, but so does the straightforwardness of each level. There are no mazes of rooms to explore that get you lost and/or confused, even though some do take a little extra exploring, wall-knocking, and magic to find some of the items needed.

A noted con to the game is that you cannot save progress in the middle of a level. This means you must complete each board to save everything you collected. If you miss items, you can replay any show in an attempt to collect, but the same rules apply. You have to complete the board to save collected items.

A pro to all this is that as long as you defeat the boss at the end of each show, the next door will open up for you. You do not have to collect every item to move on. You can also replay any show as much as you like. When every item is collected, a special prize will be given. I do not know what that is yet as I have not collected all items. Some take a bit more critical thinking than others to find so I will update you when I get there.

I have not beat the game either because I am a stickler for perfection and trying to collect every item from each show before I finish. There are also small side quests that you can play when you talk to some of the theater staff standing around waiting for you to save them.

All in all Princess Peach: Showtime! is an enjoyable game where some parts are easier than others making it suitable for ages 5 and older. It could make an excellent bonding game for parents and children teaching analytical and critical thinking skills. If you love adventures and boss fighting, then this game is for you.
