Recently I decided to pick up where I left off on a Multi Player Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) that allows the player to complete quests, not only alone but also with the help of other players. Last time I played this game was in 2017. Starting back up with an old favorite can be hard. There are so many aspects you need to relearn and get used to again.

One of the biggest dilemmas that comes with restarting is whether you should start a new character or use an existing one. This can become a challenging decision, especially if you have leveled your original character up to a high level. Although my character was Champion level 267, did I really want to start there when I cant remember any of the controls? Or do I want to start over and learn the game, with the use of a new character so we could start over together? I decided it would be better to use my older character in order to somewhat have my foot in the door.

Learning the controls all over again wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, because the controls are listed right on the screen. However, when you have been playing a completely different game for the last year, you have to try and not use those controls. The controls for Diablo 3 and ESO are definitely different. For me, it was more about learning why I set my character up the way I did. Why was my health bar so low? At the level I was at, it should have been higher. So I called in an expert, so to say. My fiancé has been playing all sorts of video games since he was younger. Even though I had played video games in the past, I just recently allowed myself to be referred to as a “Gamer” and for me that required the completion of Dark Souls 3 with hardly any help.

My fiancé watched me play a bit and advised me that it looked as though my character was regenerating health as well as stamina with some of my abilities while also creating a shield around them. Once I pinpointed which abilities allowed me to regain my stats, figuring out how to fight the different creatures and not die was simple and easier. I also grew an appreciation for my past self, who created this amazing character while being fairly new to the gaming world.

With so many new in game additions, it was also hard to figure out where to start on quests. Many things about the in game content has changed, so I had to forget the old stuff and learn the new. Which wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I started picking up quests and trying to complete them along the way. I didn’t allow myself to pick up new quests (besides crafting writs) until the ones I had were completed, so I didn’t overwhelm myself.

When it comes to crafting writs (quests that allow you to craft certain items and turn them into a post for rewards) I had to remember how to create certain items as well as remember recipes. With the release of Summerset, also came the release of Jewelry crafting. Luckily, I had purchased 6 months of ESO plus which allows you to have access to all the expansions, without having to purchase them.

Sadly, since it has been so long since I played, I no longer have guilds I am a part of. That is okay for now, as I would like to have more experience under my belt, before seeking out one to join. I was a part of a few before and made sure to donate money and items to the bank daily and also sold items in the market to earn more in game currency.

Hopefully in time I can get back to being the player I once was. For now, I will just have to relearn how to play the game and complete as many quests as I can. That’s the biggest thing I love about playing these types of games. There are always an endless amount of quests you can complete. I am the type of person who has to complete every quest though, so sadly I may never complete this one. But I can always keep trying. There is always new content being added as well as new things to learn everyday! What game could you play non-stop?
