How To Obtain Items in 'Minecraft'

A Rather Overlooked Aspect of an Amazing Game

A wonderful game

Have you ever thought about the many different options Minecraft gives on obtaining items in the game? This is one of my favorite things about Minecraft and something I want to share with you all. There are three main methods: Gathering, Creating, and Cheating. Each method has its own pros and cons as well as accommodating different play styles. This is something I just love about Minecraft and wanted to share with all of you because I feel it's a very underrated aspect of this amazing game.

Without, further ado let's go over the first method Gathering. This method would cover playing the game in survival mode and actually going out and physically collecting the blocks and items you wish to use. An extension of this method is farming. Farming can include mobs both passive and aggressive as well as plants. Survival mode also offers two other options for gathering materials such as crafting and trading with villagers. None of the options above will give you all obtainable items in the game but each can be mixed and matched to get almost all of them. This is the most well-known method overall, and one of the pros of this method would be the challenge to obtain certain items. However, this can be very mundane and extremely repetitive for the more basic items and especially so if your building. However, there is a bit of amazing satisfaction knowing every block in your build was painstakingly found gathered and obtained. I know a lot of players who do this and create there own personal quests to obtain every item for there builds fulfilling their roleplaying itch. For those who just want to build and create without limitations this method typically takes far to long and offers little enjoyment.

This brings us to the second method of getting items in Minecraft the wonderful creative method or as the game calls it creative mode. This allows access to every block and item in the game allowing builders who don't want to spend the time and energy of going out and searching for the blocks they need. There are three main ways to engage in creative mode. First off is to just simply create a world in creative mode. However, if you want to be able to switch back and forth, you can enable cheats before starting in a survival world so you can then switch your game mode back and forth whenever you wish. Don't worry if you started a survival world without enabling cheats on as you can simply do so by going in open up to open Lan and click enable cheats then start Lan world thus allowing you to temporarily use cheats in the world and switching to creative mode this way. While in creative mode the game changes drastically and you become more or less like a god being able to fly prevent taking damage from mobs and a bunch of other perks making building much much easier. You can even equip a sword going around slaughtering those freaking impossible mobs that keep on killing you in survival mode without ever taking damage giving you that wonderful satisfaction. Oh, take that you big fat fish, haha (sorry going on a tangent. I had a severe problem gathering sponges in the water temple so I took my vengeance out with a diamond sword and went on a fish genocide). This method as it suggests offers the most creativity giving you all but one block in the game to work with. However, it can lead to a lack of fulfillment if you want any challenge when it comes to playing the game as you can just give yourself anything without any hassle. It kinda left me empty inside when I used this method once to give myself 64 diamonds trying to enchant a diamond pickaxe with fortune four. I eventually just deleted them all and kept the two I made from finding diamonds. I, however, find it really annoying when In my builds where I need dirt or sand and they're everywhere but I don't want to switch to this mode just to get those, but I also don't want to waste the time to go gather these very common blocks. Lucky for me, there is another way.

This method gives access to all the materials including the most useful block without having to gather but still keeping you in that sweat sweat survival mode the third method of obtaining any item in the game cheat it in. This method is like a halfway point between survival mode and creative. First off you need to turn cheats on and then by putting the give command you can now obtain any item you want without switching your game mode. This includes the most amazing block in the game the command block. The command block can be used in so many different ways and is the biggest pro of the cheating method. In some ways, it allows you to mod the game within in the game itself. I have seen players use command block to create special armor, change what villagers give and even change how blocks interact. I have never used a command block myself though. I use this method myself mainly when I'm doing construction and I need extra dirt blocks or sand as I mentioned above. I don't really want to switch my game mode because I like playing in survival more than creative, but I also don't want to waste a crap ton of time gathering some of the most common blocks in the game and relocating them to fill in a hole which usually just makes a hole somewhere else. I'm weird that way. Like creative mode, though, a big con from this method is it can lead to a cheapening of the game if you just give yourself a bunch of material you haven't earned. I find this method is best used in moderation or for moding. So unlike creative, I wouldn't do this too often. It's wonderful to have an in-between giving a great many options on how you play.

Just going over all these methods makes me so happy and makes me just so giddy to open up and play even more. I love Minecraft and the many options it gives me on playing. Whether you gather the materials in an epic quest, or want to be like a god and have infinite power to create and destroy almost all the blocks or simply want to magic the blocks into existence by cheating, Minecraft has you covered. I hope you all learned something more about how you can play Minecraft and if not your just geeking out over this wonderful game like me.
