I tend to move through stages as a multi-passionate individual. I'll start watching a TV show and get OBSESSED with it for a week or two, and then I'll go on to something shiny new to obsess about.
I've been obsessing about board games lately. My partner and I don't have a linens closet, but we do have a gaming closet. But, since my mother and I decided to make our own board game (and not just speak about it this time — walking to walk, woot! ), I've done four things:
1) I've seen quite a few episodes of Game the Game. TableTop was a show I used to enjoy, but it was cancelled after four seasons. Even though Game the Game isn't new, I'd never seen it before... I'll be able to catch up since, owing to the epidemic, I'm quite sure they won't be producing new episodes. (Also, for those unfamiliar, Game the Game and TableTop are also online shows that you can watch on YouTube!)
2) I've thought of a dozen additional board game concepts... Because some are simply dice games and others are card games, I should say TABLETOP games (and, of course, a few do have boards). This has been fantastic for my creative ego, as well as for my young self, who used to make paper board games. I had completely forgotten about that recollection until lately, and it brings me great joy.
3) I just mailed in a bunch of Magic the Gathering cards (*cough* 300 *cough*) in exchange for shop credit so I can buy 6-9 board games I've been eyeing. (Thank you, Game the Game, for exposing me to so many new ones!) I'm still waiting on the precise amount of credit, which will dictate which games I buy — I might even let my partner choose a few of major ones (since most of my must-have choices are smaller games, and I think he prefers the big ones).]
4) Because I couldn't wait for my big stockpile to arrive, I made a single board game purchase at my local game store. I selected a game that holds a special place in my heart from the beginning of my relationship with my lover... I couldn't resist buying it when I saw it on the shelf. Before he got home from work, I surprised him by having it set up on the table, and we've played it three times already this week. When we don't play board games together for lengthy periods of time, I notice something isn't quite right. I've been reminded of how much fun (and how tough — he's way more strategic than I am!) it is to play board games with him.
Some of my passions (particularly TV series) are more of a diversion from my daily life, and I don't receive much enjoyment from them... but board games, oh, board games! I've previously mentioned how beneficial it has been to my creative flow, but this newest interest has also brought me a lot of joy and excitement recently... dare I say, a fresh feeling of energy?

So, how long do you think this period will last? I'm not sure what I'm saying. Given the project with my mother and the prospect of a plethora of new games to play in the near future, it may last a lot longer. But we'll have to wait and see... perhaps if it lasts a long time, I'll approach my pals about starting a podcast.
To conclude, I'd want to stress upon you Wil Wheaton's (TableTop) good counsel, which I feel everyone should heed: "Play more games!"
