1. Have Something to Go Back to

Experiencing FOMO is extremely common. Whether you want or not, you’ll have FOMO at some point or the other. But you can easily overcome it.

One way of doing that is to have something better to do when you get back home.

You surely know in your heart that it’s not worth missing a party to sit back ideal at home. So instead of going home to do nothing at all, have plans that will excitedly pull you back home. You don’t have to throw a party.

You can do anything else that keeps the excitement going. For example, you can have a playdate with your kids, watch a new movie with your partner, play some games, or spend quality time with your family.

This will keep you engaged and make you feel JOMO even when you know that you’ve missed out on something that others are thoroughly enjoying.

2. Unplug

FOMO isn’t a new concept. But its effect has increased manifold due to social media and technology. So a good way to decrease its side effects is to unplug and take regular tech-free breaks.

Sure you can’t entirely put away your laptop or mobile phone owing to your professional commitments. But you can definitely turn off your social media notifications for some time.

It might feel weird at first, but you’ll slowly realize how disconnecting yourself from social media can be a blessing in disguise for you.

When you don’t stop scrolling through your feed, you stop reacting to things you see online, and your FOMO decreases automatically. Also, it’s important to understand that what you see on social media need not always be true.

3. Practise Gratitude

You feel FOMO at the thought of ‘what could be rather than thinking about ‘what is’. So a brilliant way of turning FOMO into JOMO is to think about all the things that you’re grateful for in your life.

Rather than thinking about what you don’t have, start practicing gratitude for what you’re blessed with. It could be about your health, your family, your education, your job, or anything that is helping you have the life you currently have.

There are so many people in the world who don’t have what you have. So be grateful for the things in your life. It’s a powerful way to change your perspective of life and turn FOMO into JOMO.

Sometimes you’ll find yourself so busy with other people’s lives that you forget about yourself. Stop doing that. Create some time for yourself and spend it doing what you love doing the most. Celebrate your existence by focusing on the positives of life.

Instead of worrying about what could have been, use your time to engage in mindfulness by practicing yoga. Compare yourself to the vastness of the sea and the sky. There is so much in the world to be in awe of.

Thinking about things like that will help you forget the false and fleeting and force you to see the brilliance of life. It will help you find acceptance of the present, go with the flow and be happy with what you have.
