Painfully Beautiful Book Dedications: Part 4
The series continues (again!)
The time has finally come for the fourth installment of “Painfully Beautiful Book Dedications.” The series where I scour the shelves for the best book dedications, the ones that make you feel something before the book even starts.
Catch up on Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 if you're new to the series!
As I’ve done previously, each book dedication will include a link to read more about the book, since I find background knowledge about the book can impact the meaning.
Being that every previous installment of “Painfully Beautiful Book Dedications” has started with the author, Fredrik Backman, it would be a shame not to continue the sentiment.
I have previously noted Anxious People, Us Against You, Beartown, and The Winners; and Britt-Marie Was Here is no exception.

My Dear Lucy, I wrote this story for you, but when I began it I had not realized that girls grow quicker than books. As a result you are already too old for fairy tales, and by the time it is printed and bound you will be older still. But some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again. You can then take it down from some upper shelf, dust it, and tell me what you think of it. I shall probably be too deaf to hear, and too old to understand a word you say but I shall still be. Your affectionate Godfather.

It turns out the A Series of Unfortunate Events novel series by Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket) throws in dark comedy at the beginning of each book dedication. For example...
