The OnePlus 11 5G is the first flagship device from the company in 2023 and it looks to be worth the wait. With a sleek and modern design, powerful processor, and lightning-fast charging, this phone has all the makings of a true flagship. It's not a major departure from last year's OnePlus 10 Pro, however, featuring similar design elements, a small boost in power, and only moderate improvements to the camera. If you're expecting a revolutionary device, you may be disappointed. Those who recently purchased the OnePlus 10 Pro won't find enough to warrant an upgrade.
The OnePlus 11 is a 5G-ready device that boasts a powerful processor, generous storage and a competitive price tag. It may not have the same level of features as some of its more expensive rivals, but it more than makes up for it thanks to its affordability. With its 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the base model will set you back just $699 (£729 or roughly AU$1,270). Even the higher-end review model I tested, with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, is still a great deal at $799 (£799).
The OnePlus 11 also has some great features that make it stand out from the crowd. The impressive 6.55-inch display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels is perfect for watching movies and playing games. It also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, making it one of the best-looking phones in this price range. The device also comes with a triple camera setup, with a 48MP main, 16MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro lens. It's great for taking both photos and videos, and the high-quality audio recording ensures great sound quality when shooting videos.
Oneplus 11 : Design
The design of the new phone is eye-catching and distinctive, offering a refreshing departure from its predecessors. The toughened Gorilla Glass ensures it can withstand knocks and drops, while the IP64 rating provides protection from water. The display is an impressive Super AMOLED panel that supports both Dolby Vision HDR and HDR 10 Plus, ensuring a bright and vivid viewing experience with compatible content.
OnePlus 11 : Power
Powering the phone is the aforementioned Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, backed up by a meaty 16GB of RAM (on my review model). It's a potent chip that put in some seriously impressive scores on our suite of benchmark tests, landing it comfortably among the most powerful phones around.
Benchmarks don't mean everything, of course, but rest assured that this phone will handle anything you care to throw at it. Its graphics performance is particularly strong. Demanding games like Genshin Impact, PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends (all at max resolution) displayed at consistently high frame rates for smooth gameplay.
Oneplus 11 : Camera
The OnePlus 11 features an impressive triple-camera setup with a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 32-megapixel portrait camera. However, the portrait camera falls short compared to its forerunner, the OnePlus 10 Pro, which featured a 3.3x zoom.
The OnePlus 11's portrait camera is limited to a 2x optical zoom, making it significantly less versatile than the 5x telephoto zoom present on the Pixel 7 Pro. While zoom capabilities may not seem like a major factor, having a powerful zoom can be extremely useful for taking great photos in a variety of environments.
OnePlus : Battery & Charging
Equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, this phone is capable of getting you through a full day of use if you are mindful of your usage. At its highest resolution of 3,216x1,440 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz with the screen brightness at maximum, the battery drained from 100% to 92% in an hour of YouTube streaming. After two hours, the battery had dropped to 85%.
By decreasing the resolution to 2,412x1,080 pixels and the refresh rate to 60Hz, the battery did not drop below 100% after one hour of streaming and only decreased to 95% after two hours. On the other hand, a mere 30 minutes of Genshin Impact with all settings maxed out drained 10% of the battery.
OnePlus 11: Buy or Not?
The OnePlus 11 is a great option for anyone looking for an affordable 5G-ready device without compromising on performance. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor ensures a smooth, responsive experience, even when multitasking or running resource-intensive apps. The generous 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage make it a suitable choice for users who want to store plenty of media and photos, while the 256GB option provides plenty of room for larger games and apps.
Overall, the OnePlus 11 is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a powerful 5G-ready device without breaking the bank. Its competitive price, generous storage and impressive features make it a great choice for anyone who wants to get the most out of their phone. While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of its more expensive counterparts, it still provides an excellent experience and is sure to please any user.
