Austria Job Search Visa (Valid for Six Months)

Eligibility Criteria for Highly Skilled Professional

Minimum 70 points are required. Total of 100 points can be achieved

1. Special Qualifications & Skills (Max: 40 points supported by official document)

Education: Graduation from a higher education program with minimum four years of studies (For example: Bachelor Degree of 4 years)

In general subjects: 20 points

In Mathematics, IT, Natural Sciences, Technology: 30 points

PhD or Postdoc: 40 points

Salary from previous year (senior management position in a listed company or one approved by the Austrian Foreign Trade Office):

€50,000 - €60,000: 20 points

€60,000 - €70,000: 25 points

More than €70,000: 30 points

Research & Innovation - Patent applications or publications: 20 points

Awards - Recognised prizes: 20 points

2. Work Experience (Max: 20 points)

Each 6 months of relevant work experience: 2 points (up to the max)

6 months of work experience in Austria: 10 point

3. Language Skills (Max: 10 points)

German or English

A1 level (basic use): 5 points

A2 level (better basic use): 10 points

Other languages (B1 level – independent use):

French: 5 points

Spanish: 5 points

Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian: 5 points

4. Age (Max: 20 points)

Up to 35 years old: 20 points

Up to 40 years old: 15 points

Up to 45 years old: 10 points

5. Studies in Austria (Max: 10 points)

Completion of half a diploma program or half the required ECTS points: 5 points

Completion of full diploma, or bachelor’s + master’s degree: 10 points

Total Possible Points: 100

Minimum Required to Qualify: 70

2. Required Documents

When applying for the Job Seeker Visa, you must submit:

A valid passport

A recent passport-sized photo (45 x 35 mm, taken within the last six months)

Proof of accommodation in Austria (lease agreement, tenancy rights, or ownership proof)

Proof of comprehensive health insurance covering all risks

Proof of financial means to support yourself (payslips, employment contracts, pension or insurance benefit certificates, investment documents, or proof of personal assets)

Documents for Points System Assessment:

Special Qualifications and Skills

Degree certificate from a programme lasting at least four years

Proof of the university’s status as a recognised institution

If applicable, proof that the degree is in a MINT subject

Proof of post-doctoral qualification (habilitation) or PhD

For salary-based points: tax assessment notice or pay certificate, employer confirmation of your senior management role, and proof the company is listed or approved by the Austrian foreign trade office

For research activities: list of scientific publications with titles and sources, certificates of research or teaching positions, and patent registration extracts

For awards: official proof of the award or prize

You must submit both the originals and copies of all documents. If any document is not in German or English, you must provide a certified translation. The Austrian embassy or consulate will review your documents for completeness and send them to the AMS for scoring. If requested, you may need to submit legalised versions of certain documents.
