What is 4th generation hiv test?

In this article, we shall learn more about the following.

1.

What is an HIV test?

2.

what is the maximum HIV window period?

3.

4th generation HIV test window period.

4.

4th generation HIV test accuracy

without further ado, let us get started and answer those questions.

alright.

1.

What is an HIV test?

This is a test you will do if you want to know if you are living with HIV or not.

HIV can be tested through blood, urine and saliva or (substances from your gums).

Testing HIV through blood offers the highest accuracy compared to other testing methods.

As you can see, you can only know if you have HIV or not only through testing.

There are absolutely no symptoms that show you are living with HIV.

So, stop saying 'I have all HIV symptoms' but I tested negative.

Also, HIV symptoms only last for 2 to 4 weeks, meaning that, your symptoms after a couple

of months are highly likely from either HIV phobia or another different disease.

2.

what is the maximum HIV window period?

A couple of years ago, the maximum window period of HIV was 6 months but, currently,

it is only 3 months because we have strong and advanced HIV testing kits that easily

detect HIV sooner.

Also, each test kit has its window period.

For instance, HIV RNA test kits have the shortest window period of 10 days to 33 days.

And rapid antibody-only tests have the longest window period of up to 90 days or 12 weeks.

Your HIV test results will be conclusive from 45 to 50 days if you use 4th generation or

HIV RNA test kits, while a test result from rapid antibody tests is conclusive from 90

days.

Another fact for you is that, If an HIV test is conclusive from 45 days, it implies that,

that same test is conclusive at any date after 45 days for instance 50 days, 70 days, 6 months,

10 years etc.

This same fact applies to all other HIV test kits.

If we say a certain test is conclusive, it signifies the highest accuracy such that,

you do not need to test again.

3.

4th generation HIV test window period.

Guys, any test which detects both antigens and HIV antibodies is called a 4th generation

HIV test.

These tests have a window period of 14 days to 45 days.

using 4th generation HIV test kits, your result will be conclusive from 45 to 50 days.

Do not test again if you tested negative after 45 days from the last exposure.

Guys, I have no data on the accuracy of the 4th generation HIV test before 30 days.

4.

4th generation HIV test accuracy.

Since I already said that HIV test results from 4th generation kits are conclusive after

45 to 50 days, this implies the highest test accuracy.

Studies have shown that, these tests will detect more than 99% of the infections by

45 days and close to 100% by 90 days.

According to UK guidelines, you should not test again if your result is negative after

45 days.

Another query concerns elite HIV controllers.

Guys, these people's bodies have the power to control HIV infection without being on

HIV treatment.

Few of them have a likelihood of getting a false negative test result from antibody-only

tests, but other HIV tests work fine for them too just like other normal people.
