Top 5 'Doctor Who' Episodes: The Thirteenth Doctor's Era
The 5 Best Episodes from Series Eleven Through Thirteen of Revived 'Doctor Who'

Not too long ago, I did a re-watch of the Thirteenth Doctor's seasons and I thought it was about time that I chose my top episodes for her.
The previous top episode lists for Doctor Who that I've written are listed and linked at the end of this post!
This list (like the others) doesn't include special episodes and two-parters are put together so will share a spot. Now, with that being said, these are my top 5 episodes of the Thirteenth Doctor's era and be warned, this post may contain spoilers.
5. "War of the Sontarans" [13x02] — 8/10
The first time I watched the Flux (season 13) storyline, I wasn’t too sure about it but I definitely had a better time during this re-watch. While it's still not a favourite overarching storyline for me, this episode made its way to the top pretty easily. While it does have moments that connect it to the rest of the season, it's also an episode I would happily watch on its own. I don’t have any particular soft spot for the Sontarans but I can’t deny that they’re often great elements of whatever episodes they’re in and this one was no different. In fact, this is one of my favourites starring them (if not thee favourite) and I particularly loved how they became wrapped up in history during this episode.
4. "Rosa" [11x03] — 8/10
Doctor Who has a record of doing episodes based around historical/real life figures. I won’t sit here and pretend I know with 100% accuracy if the historical details within this episode are entirely factual but this episode was really amazing. I love how the characters of Doctor Who were woven into this story without taking away the spotlight from Rosa Parks and all that she did. And on top of an excellently paced and structured story, this episode looked great too. particularly in the set and costume/make-up departments.
3. "Fugitive of the Judoon" [12x05] — 8/10
I've seen this episode a couple of times now and even knowing the twist(s), it's still so entertaining to watch it all unfold. It may not be as shocking after a first watch but there’s so many fantastic things to enjoy no matter how often you see it. The acting, the slow reveal of information, the tension… It’s all amazing.
2. "The Haunting of Villa Diodati" [12x08] — 8/10
This episode is a ton of fun! It's so atmospheric and also has consequences that act as a great opening to events later in the show. Doctor Who isn’t unfamiliar with these kinds of storylines but it doesn’t make them any less entertaining. This episode has that typical Doctor Who mystery with the eerie villain, and the unexplained circumstances that have that science fiction twinge. Add in a spooky/haunted house setting and some ghost stories and you’ve got a great mix!
Some Honourary Moments
- 11x01 The Woman Who Fell to Earth — Such a great introduction to a new Doctor!
- 11x06 Demons of the Punjab — I always love diving into the companion’s lives and going on trips that involve them personally in some way.
- 12x01 Spyfall + 12x02 Spyfall — That Master reveal!?
- 12x04 Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror — I do love when this show brings in historical figures.
1. "Village of the Angels" [13x04] — 8/10**
There's always something so thrilling about Weeping Angels episodes for me. They're one of, if not my top, villains in Doctor Who. I don’t think a single episode starring them has disappointed me and Village of the Angels was no different. It may not be the scariest or creepiest of the Weeping Angel episodes but it still manages to capture that slow eeriness that puts you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next.
There we have my top 5 episodes!
I thoroughly enjoyed the Thirteenth Doctor’s run and that’s including the re-watches I’ve done. I was excited when she regenerated but I have to admit, I was sad to get no more episodes with her. She had a great run and while I do think there was some shakiness at the start, it didn’t take long for her to shine and I continue to miss Jodie Whittaker in this role.
