The World's First Screenless Laptop Has Arrived. Welcome To The Future Of Computing

Technology

In a world where every new laptop seems to push pixels harder than the last, one startup has taken a radically different path: eliminating the screen entirely. The Spacetop G1, developed by Israel-based Sightful, has arrived as what many are calling the world’s first screenless laptop — a device that challenges everything we think a computer must be.
IoT Worlds
Rather than a traditional display, this new breed of laptop uses augmented reality (AR) glasses to project a massive virtual workspace — up to the size of a 100-inch screen — in front of the user. The concept sounds like it comes straight out of a sci-fi novel, but it’s now very much a real product.

A Laptop Without a Display? How It Works
At its core, the Spacetop G1 retains the familiar elements of a portable computer: a physical keyboard, trackpad, and processing hardware. But instead of an integrated LCD or OLED panel, the laptop relies on a pair of AR glasses that connect wirelessly and project your workspace into your line of sight. That means your browser windows, email, video calls, and productivity apps appear “floating” in virtual space wherever you choose to look.
IoT Worlds
In practical terms, this lets users have a massive display experience — the equivalent of a 100-inch screen — without lugging around a bulky physical monitor. The invisible display also promises to reduce eye strain and neck fatigue by allowing users to position their digital workspace at eye level.
IoT Worlds
Under the hood, the device runs a customized version of SpaceOS (built atop Chromium OS), supports web-based applications like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, and includes enough computing power for everyday productivity tasks. It also boasts a 5MP camera integrated via the glasses for video calls and eight hours of battery life on a single charge.

The Promise of a Screenless Future
The idea of ditching physical screens isn’t entirely new. For decades, technologists have dreamed of wearable displays, holographic interfaces, and virtual desktops that free us from the constraints of physical monitors. What makes the Spacetop significant is that it’s one of the first consumer-ready products to bring that vision into a real device.
IoT Worlds
Advocates of the technology argue that traditional screens limit our productivity and mobility. A screen adds weight, consumes power, and fixes a workspace in front of us — all things that limit how and where we work. By contrast, a screenless device lets you:
Customize your visual workspace — literally wherever you look.
Expand screen “real estate” without carrying large hardware.
Seamlessly switch between tasks in a larger virtual environment.
IoT Worlds
From this perspective, the Spacetop is not just a quirky gadget — it’s a glimpse into what computing might look like in a world where physical displays slowly fade away, replaced by wearable or spatial interfaces.
A Product Poised Between Novelty and Revolution
That said, the screenless laptop is not yet a mainstream phenomenon. Critics — including tech communities on Reddit — have pointed out that right now, a screenless laptop like the Spacetop G1 is still essentially a Chromebook plus AR glasses packaged together, and may not yet be compelling enough for most consumers. The glasses lock you into a specific hardware and software ecosystem, and some argue you could already build a similar setup by combining a traditional laptop and AR headset for less money.
Reddit
There are also practical hurdles: productivity software ecosystems are still optimized for physical displays, AR glasses can be uncomfortable for long sessions, and battery life must improve to compete with traditional laptops. Some users have even dismissed early versions of the product as “a solution looking for a problem” until the technology matures further.

Why This Matters Now
The arrival of a screenless laptop comes at a moment when computing trends are rapidly shifting. Augmented reality and spatial computing are growing fields, pushed forward by major companies like Apple, Meta, and others who are investing heavily in AR glasses and mixed reality headsets. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence — another major trend shaping tech right now — is making voice and gesture interfaces far more capable and intuitive.
Built In
A screenless laptop effectively sits at the intersection of AR and AI: a device designed to reduce visual clutter and distractions, freeing users to interact with their computers in more human, natural ways — through gestures, voice commands, and context-aware AI responses. This aligns with broader industry efforts, including rumored screenless AI devices being developed by industry heavyweights like OpenAI and legendary designer Jony Ive, which aim to create even more intuitive, ambient computing experiences.

Looking Ahead
Whether the Spacetop G1 leads a broader shift away from physical screens or remains a niche product for early adopters remains to be seen. What is clear is that computing’s future may not look like the clamshell laptops of the past. As hardware evolves — from foldable and rollable screens to transparent displays and AR-driven interfaces — the very notion of how we interact with our digital world is being reimagined.
Forbes
For now, the world’s first screenless laptop stands as a bold experiment — a challenge to our assumptions about screens and a signal that the next era of computing may be less about what’s in front of us and more about what’s around us.

But why? What's the point of any of this? Are the IDF not getting enough money? The American's tax money are already paying for their horrible, horrible acts and they're paying a shit ton of money for them. How much more money do you need???? What do you benefit from any of this???!!!!

I'm an atheist who doesn't agree with the atrocious behavior of the state of affairs with Israel's killings in Gaza as well as the October Hamas killings. I don't like this laptop for technical reasons though 1. That looks like a captive cable to the glasses that could damage easily. 2. Why wouldn't you do some kind of wireless glasses solution. 3. When you're in a meeting and need to show a group of people what's on your screen it can't be done out of the box. 4. You constantly will have to wear the glasses, like it or not.
