The Payne of the Bite Saga (Pt.4)

Four survivors must escape infected citizens and dark entities to find a research facility within modern-day North Carolina.

"How will the past of these four survivors come back to haunt them in the afterlife?"

The Commercial Bus Crash

Elder Gloom communicates with the mighty Being's mother in the dream realm, seeking information on the Haunter's vulnerabilities as I infiltrate the dark realm of the afterlife and plan our next phase of offense. In the dark realm of the afterlife, I can also finally see the newly developed weapon known as the Dark Engine. The Dark Engine's purpose was processing eternal souls to conjure several portals that possessed path points leading areas in the land of the living. After regaining all of the energy I'd lost as a Dark Shadow after waking up in the afterlife, I set out to find the remaining seven magical trial items. I realized that simply collecting one of the eight magical trial items would not suffice after finally seeing the newly developed Dark Engine weapon in the dark realm of the afterlife.

Alternatively, traveling through the Dark Engine's several portals in the afterlife would allow me to enter specific locations in the land of the living. These paths would also lead to the locations of the remaining seven magical trial items. The dynamism of the Dark Shadows obtaining all eight magical trial items would help lead us to the hiding places of the all-powerful Beings' resurrection grounds. Entering the first Dark Engine-created pathway led me to a location in the land of the living somewhere deep underground on the east coast of the United States. With the magical knife Valhalla still in my possession, I discovered that the first magical trial item served as a link between the Light and Dark realms.

Exploring the layout of this new location would bring me one step closer to acquiring the second magical trial item. Only as a Dark Shadow did I know what difficult test I would have to endure here in this underground lab. As I continued to explore the underground lab, I became aware of how strangely empty it had been. Images began to flood my mind seemingly out of nowhere. I'm watching the eclipse that was present during Elder Gloom's ritual transform, and then I'm shown a barren battleground and a newly created Dark Shadow becoming the new ruler of the Haunters and all that resided in the afterlife.

The new lord of the Haunters appeared to be a new mighty Being as well as a new crossbreed version of a Dark Shadow, whose devotion to the afterlife shaped the merger of the realms predicted in our prophecy. Unbeknownst to me, the visions I had just endured were part of the next competitive trial. I awoke on the floor of the underground laboratory. A strange, slightly glowing mark had wrapped around my Dark Shadow's right arm. Confirming to myself that the strange vision or dream I had experienced was now reality.

I began my search for the third magical trial item, shocked by what I had just witnessed in the underground laboratory. I was able to teleport to a new location after activating my second magical trial, which was now in the form of this strange glowing mark. I was able to transport to a highway in the United States. A freight train had just collided with an oncoming vehicle, smashing into a commercial bus across from me. With a military presence on this highway, I found myself in plain sight of strange beings who had the appearance of human beings but had the distinct features of the evilness that resides in the afterlife.
