The Journey of Horimiya Anime

Anime & Manga

By Eris GreyratPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

Horimiya is one of the famous Japanese manga series. The manga was published with a different name. If I am not wrong, the Japanese name is Hori-san to Miyamura-Kun. Hiroki Adachi wrote and illustrated this manga series. The story of this manga is very normal. There is not much uniqueness in this story either. Before jumping into that let's talk about the journey of Horimiya anime and manga.

Manga

As I mentioned, Hiroki Adachi is the writer and illustrator of this manga series. At this time he was under the care of the pseudonym Hero (an online website). The manga is pretty old also. The manga came in February 2007 and it ran till December 2011. It was one of the few mangas which were released online. If the manga is released online, there are two reasons. The first one is that the writer is not so sure about the story or some publisher already ditched his or her idea. In this case, the writer was not so sure about his writing at all. That's why the manga is self-published on Hero's website in the four-panel format. Later the series received a print publication by Square Enix. Later Square Enix compiled the manga chapters in ten volumes under its imprint Gangan Comics. It was the time of October 2008.

This manga also contained additional side-story chapters. The publisher compiled the side story chapters as Hori-san to Miyamura-Kun Omake. This side-story has a total of 14 volumes. This was released on 21st July 2012. It's still an ongoing story. Anyway, the manga was licensed by Yen Press to release worldwide in the English language.

Anime

After several years of Manga releases, Horimiya finally debuted in the anime industry. The anime came on 10th January 2021. It is the first season of this anime. It ended on 4th April 2021. Horimiya English sub and dub are available to watch. Masashi Ishihama directed the anime and Takao Yoshioka wrote the story for the anime. CloverWorks Studio produced this anime and later Funimation licensed this anime to stream it in North America. The first season has only 13 episodes. The original networks were Tokyo MX, GYT, GTV, BS11 & MBS. These networks aired this show on Television in Japan.

Plot

Kyoko Hori is a bright and popular high school student, in contrast to her classmate Izumi Miyamura, a gloomy and seemingly nerdy, glasses-wearing boy. At home, Hori is a homebody who dresses down and looks after her younger brother Souta. She takes every attempt to hide this from her classmates. Once, Souta was assisted by someone with numerous earrings and tattoos, as well as a punk-styled look, when he came home with a nosebleed one day. The person recognizes her and introduces himself as Miyamura. They agree to keep their true identities concealed from their peers, but they begin to relate to each other as friends and then as a couple.

The plot is taken from Wikipedia. You can check out more details there.

Will there be any Second Season?

So after the season ended, the question arrived from several fans if there will be any second season of this anime. Well, it's hard to say right now.

Well as the director of this anime stated, "Now for the final episode, I want you to feel that this is where Horimiya will end." It's likely that they are not planning for a second season. If you follow the manga story, the creators skipped many scenes in the anime. It looks like they just wanted to finish it within 13 episodes. Still, if the manga sales did well, we may see a second season. But right now there is no hope of a second season.
