Everywhere, feet were scurrying across the forest floor. Whispers perked ears from short distances. "Hurry!" Carried one person's voice,"hide!". People where moving as quietly and quickly as possible. Alexandra and Garth, made it to their tree, and got inside and closed the door. Suddenly there was only silence. Alexandra twisted a piece of her hair in the dark and tried to control her breathing. Garth stuffed his ears with cotton to the best of his ability. They put tape across their mouths to prevent any sudden noises they might make out of fear. All they could do now was wait. The silence transformed into a thundering rumble. Growling and sniffing sounded close enough to be inside the tree with them. It was tough for both of them not to panic, but their lives depended on there absolute silence and stealth. The beasts outside where bred to have an impeccable since of hearing and smell, and their teeth went through flesh, like a hot knife through butter. "Aargh!" A man's scream pierced through the other noises. Shortly after that, the beasts howled in unison. Everyone hiding, plugged their ears with their fingers. The howling could reach a frequency that scrambled human brain waves permanently. The things that controlled the beasts weren't quite human either. The howling had no effect on them. They moved in silence as if they floated from place to place.
After about two hours had gone by, silence filled the forest again. Alexandra uncovered a small hole and peaked out. She was relieved to see only trees. She covered it back up and lit a candle. Garth, untapped his mouth and let out a sigh of relief. "Please, God, let this end!" He pleaded in a whisper. Alexandra removed her mouth tape and kissed Garth on the forehead. She stood there holding him close and let him cry into her linen dress. She closed her eyes and wished to herself, that she could rid everyone of this problem. A wish with hopelessness riding on the coat tails. Garth saw a bright light, through his tears, and wiped his eyes to focus. When his vision was clear, he choked on his own saliva, trying to find the words. Alexandra opened her eyes upon hearing Garth choke. The bright light startled her and she gasped almost into a scream. The figure of a woman appeared through the light. The woman signaled silence to both of them then began to speak. "You have a great task Alexandra, you must stop LuSheron from stealing the souls of the living. I have come to show you the way." The woman from light reached inside of her own chest, and pulled out a heart shaped locket on a golden chain.
"There is stone inside of this locket that will strip LuSheron of his power. The lacing details on the heart are a map of how to get to him and the chain will protect you from the senses of the beasts. If you lose it the rest of humanity dies. If you succeed you die, but humanity will have a chance to start over again. " Her voice was clear and without emotion. She looked Alexandra straight in the eyes with every word spoken. " I don't want to lose you, let me go instead, please, I can't let you die, please don't do this Lexi! "Silence!" The lady demanded, while seeming to stare into Garth's very soul. "If anyone should touch the locket other than you, Alexadra. It will kill them and any of the bloodline they have left. "Why me? Why now? Why does it feel like I have always known this?" Alexandra's stomach was nauseous."It is because you are with child, and your child and another with help to give humanity it's last chance. You will go into labor when you're task is done, and die in the birthing process. In this way you will sacrifice your life for your child's, a love sacrifice to save humanity from extinction." Alexandra's eyes fell on Garth's, and looked at him lovingly. "Make your choice, accept your fate or die now, time is no one's to waist." Alexandra swallowed hard, and with tears streaming down her face said, " I accept my fate!" Then like a vapor, her and the lady from the light disappeared from the tree.
