Skllrapf!
Something hit the window! Sharp and heavy. Stop the battle of knights and spacemen. I drop them and go to the window.
It’s an owl! Is it alive? It’s moving a little bit. Pointy beak, that would hurt. Boy or girl? Not sure. Its feathers look soft and nice to touch, I can’t reach them though, the window is locked. Big wings, spread out on the ground now. Wider than my height! Eyes are too black, they want me to fall into them. The blackness disappears when it stops twitching.
What was it doing? Wants to say hello maybe? Or…
He has a message from the owls! There’s a pack of ancient flying monsters that are coming, as big as people, faster than a cheetah, with claws that can slice through metal. The owls had kept them under lock and key for over three-hundred years, but they escaped, no one knows how, all the guards at the prison were killed. They immediately started slashing and slicing all the owls in England, my settlement was the last to be destroyed. It’s only one mile away from where you live, behind the den you and your brother made last year out of thick and slimy logs. They screeched out of the heavy grey clouds above, all you could see was their green eyes. They immediately took away our leader, then we were all scared. Even Bedwyr, our strongest fighter, was eventually beaten. He fought two of them by himself, thrashing and biting with beak and claw, as if he were an unleashed beast. He injured one of them badly, drawing blood from its neck, but the second one grabbed him with one set of claws, so big that they wrapped around his whole body, and threw him to floor as if he weighed nothing. As soon as they attacked I knew I had to fly away, me being the fastest flier of all of us. Now that all the owls are destroyed, they will turn to the second most intelligent animals, humans.
He was shouting at me as he was flying, ‘You must go and spread the word! You must tell your elders, they have one weakness, they must know! You can’t help, maybe your Mam and Pap, but you will be eaten as a dessert by them. Their weakne-

Or…
He was running away from the tyrant Owl King’s guards! He and his group of thieves, under the cover of the early morning’s fog, had swwwoooooped into the King’s palace in the forest behind the house, where he had the biggest Amethyst rock that anyone had ever found. We owls use this as our money, and this rock was worth millions and millions. If he split it up he could give every single owl in the land a huge sum of money, but instead he kept it all for himself, keeping it guarded by ten of the strongest, scariest Owl Guards he had. Me and my gang decided that we would do what the King refused to do and give everyone their fair share of what had come out of the ground. There is an agreement among owls that anything taken from the ground is the property of all.
So into the palace we flew. First my people caused a great distraction by knocking over the statue of the King that he had ordered to be made; it is three times bigger than he actually is, and is made out of solid bronze. Then, while all the guards saw the King’s monstrous head fall into the dirt, I went behind them to the Amethyst. Without a single sound I grabbed the rock and sailed away. It didn’t take the guards very long to see what I had done, and they came after me, the ten who were watching the rock and ten of the other ones too! They were all screeching SCREEEE at me SCRAAAA to come back, it was terrifying. I flew low and through the forest. I was doing well, ducking and diving up and down and slipping through the smallest gaps at thirty miles per hour. But then it started to rain, I could barely see anything and my feathers were getting wet and slow. So I decided to leave the forest and find a good place to hide. I took a sharp right and then flew up and above the trees, evading the guards perfectly. That’s when I saw your house and there was a hole in it that I could get throu-

I bet he liked flying. I would. Scary the higher up you go, but exciting scary. Could play the best game of tag ever. You can play whenever you want as well. Even today when it’s so rainy that it makes you feel like not moving or doing anything. You could fly up and up and up through the clouds where it’s still sunny, into the world where you get to on aeroplanes. You have TWO worlds to explore when you can fly. I’ll invent a way to fly. It’ll look like how owls fly, smooth and silent. I’ll have to work out how they do it. Maybe it’s something to do with the softness of their feathers, or maybe the shape of them. I should get some paper and draw the-
‘What happened? I heard a bang!’

‘Oh dear, it’s a Barn Owl; the poor thing’s died’.
Is it that easy?
He goes outside and picks it up and takes it away. I don’t know where.
______
Barn Owl flew to warn me
Monsters coming,
He wanted me to see.
With a gem he wanted to make right what was wrong
To give to the weak and take away from the strong.
Now he is gone
And this rhyme is done.
_____________
Wow, that’s my first ever rhyme.
