'Skeleton Crew': 5 Major 'Star Wars' Events The Kids Probably Don't Know About
A Sheltered Life.

WARNING! SPOILERS for Skeleton Crew, eps 1-3.
Three episodes into Skeleton Crew, the mystery behind At Attin, the homeworld to which Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB are trying desperately to return, with the help of Jod Na Nawood, who it turns out is actually kind of dodgy. Various clues in the first three episodes, including Wim's 'lunch money' turning out to be Old Republic credits, he and Neel speaking of the Jedi in the present tense, and most recently, the kids' lack of knowledge of Alderaan's destruction, suggest that At Attin has been sheltered from the wider galaxy for a very long time.
Here's a few major events in the Star Wars universe that the Skeleton Crew kids probably don't know about.
1.The Transition from the 'Old Republic' into the 'High Republic'
Chronologically, Skeleton Crew takes place in the era of the New Republic, as it is still rebuilding following the events of the Star Wars original trilogy. This is the same period of time during which The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka are taking place, with Skeleton Crew more specifically set shortly after season three of The Mandalorian.
However, the way the people of At Attin speak of the 'Great Work', and again, Wim's lunch money, are more reminiscent of the Old Republic. The Old Republic was a time of constant wars between not only Jedi and Sith, but also Jedi and Mandalorians.
These constant wars possibly explain the barrier around At Attin, the strict rules against venturing outside of it, and Kh'ymm's explanation that the planet was hidden for safety reasons in episode three. However, it seems the planet so well hidden that they never received the news that the wars were over, or learned of the rise of the High Republic, and a golden age for the Jedi. The children are therefore unaware that there is no war outside the barrier.
2. The Clone Wars
Without knowing that the High Republic ever existed, the children would also be unaware of the war between the Republic and the Separatists, which eventually results in the High Republic's fall. Because of this, they would also not be aware of the existence of the Clone Army or battle droids (A Separatist Battle Droid briefly appears in Skeleton Crew episode three when Jod reluctantly goes to retrieve SM-33, but the kids don't see it)
Even if signs of the Clone War had passed near At Attin, they may have been dismissed as the continuation of the Jedi-Sith or Jedi-Mandalorian wars.
3. The Fall of The Jedi
Being unaware of the High Republic or the Republic/Separatist War, the children are also unaware of Order 66, or the fall of the Jedi Order. This is shown in a few ways. First, in how Wim and Neel seem to speak of the Jedi in the past tense, and how easily Wim believes Jod to be a Jedi. Second is in Fern and KB's reaction to Jod. They doubt he is a Jedi not because Jedi are rare in this time period, but because they don't believe a Jedi would be in prison.
Unfortunately, this means the kids are likely to learn the truth about the fate of the Jedi at some point in the series. This will come as a particularly horrible blow to Wim, who clearly idolises them.
4. The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
With their sheltered existence, it seems the people of At Attin entirely missed the events of both the prequel and original Star Wars trilogies. This means they are unaware of the entire reign of Emperor Palpatine, and the War between the Empire and Rebel Alliance that eventually took him down.
This is proven when Neel references Alderaan as one of the planets nearest to At Attin, unaware that it was destroyed in A New Hope. The children are then confused when Jod mentions the War. They will likely continue to be confused by any references to Imperials, the Empire, or Rebels, which may become frustrating for Jod.
5. The Birth of the New Republic
Believing they are still living in the days of the original Republic/Old Republic, the Skeleton Crew kids will be unaware that the New Republic is currently in charge. The New Republic is still in relatively early days at the time Skeleton Crew is taking place, and as seen through The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, the new regime is facing struggles as it builds.. including the over abundance of Pirates that are a large factor in Skeleton Crew's plot.
It will be interesting to see how the children react as some of these events become clear to them over the course of the series. We look forward to whatever comes next.
