The little black book

She always felt out of place. She was from a small town full of closed minded people. Always looking for a way to escape because she knew deep down she was bigger than this place.

“Victoria, what do you want to do with your life?” he asked. It had been 7 years since she finally moved away from the small town she grew up in. She was now in a serious relationship ship with Scott, had four boys to raise, and stayed at home. “I’m still not sure”, she responded. Don’t get misunderstand, she was beyond grateful to have the opportunity to stay home and raise her boys. However, something still felt out of place. What did she want to do with her life? No career made her feel excited. She knew deep down she had a big purpose. Trying to figure it out was the hard part.

The following week, Victoria waiting on Scott to get home from work. She had news of steps she had taken for her future. She had applied to a local college. How silly she felt to be going back to school at the age of 32. Still, she new she had to do something different. As she heard the garage door close, Scott came inside. “How was your day”, she asked. “Good, long and steady”, Scott replied. She gave him a tender kiss on the lips and let him put his things down. “I think I’ll go back to school”, she told Scott. “School?”, he was shocked. He knew she didn’t desire to go back to school. “Yes, I’m going to go back and finish Dental Hygiene. I already have experience in the field, being a dental assistant for a few years. It’s something I can do to help the family.”

He didn’t want her to do anything she didn’t truly desire. She knew this. The problem was she didn’t know what she truly desired. She felt she had dabbled in almost everything. She grew up Christian. I mean southern Bible Belt, Baptist. Now she had started becoming more spiritual. She had crystals. She was reading a book about souls and past lives which she seemed to be more connected to. Much more connected to the ideas of spirituality than Christianity. Maybe this was where her purpose was. After all, this is the only thing she was excited about. When she was young, she saw spirits. She wasn’t taught properly how to deal with them so she prayed her gift of clairvoyance away. Now she was regretting that. She decided to meet with a local medium. Scott was one hundred percent against the idea. She did it anyway and it turned out to be the best thing, other than moving away from her hometown, that she had ever done.

It was finally the day she was to meet with Anne, the local medium. She had waited on this day for two weeks. Full of excitement, she left her home. During the drive she felt an odd sense of confusion. Was this route of spirituality that made her feel excited about life wrong? It is against everything she was taught back home. She felt torn. Still it made her feel alive so she decided it was still the right thing to do.

She finally made it. She closed her car door. It squeezed shut. She walked across the snow to the camper door. The cold wind hitting her face. Anne greeted her with a kind smile, “Come in, nice to see you”. Victoria liked the energy this lady gave her. She felt comfortable around her, which is something she didn’t feel often around people. “I have to say, when I try to channel you before you got here I didn’t get anything for a bit. You’re so well protected by your Angels and Spirit Guides that I have to ask for permission, then I’m able to channel in. I find that interesting, it doesn’t happen often.” “That is interesting”, Victoria replied. “I’ll jump right in. I picked up on a baby girl. Do you have a daughter?”, Anne asked. “Well, I lost two babies before I had my last son”, Victoria responded. “Ah, I see. Well, I do believe this girl is one of those. She has much love. I also pick up on your grandmother. She’s giving you pink flowers. Do you have an anniversary or something coming up?” Victoria smiled and said “My birthday is coming up on the 22nd”. “Yes! That’s what the flowers are for. I’m also picking up on a younger male. I sense he cared for you much. Almost like you’re the one that got away.” Victoria pondered of who this person could be. All she could think of was Mark, who passed away two years ago in an accident. They had been engaged when they were 19 years of age. Ended badly when broke off the engagement after a few months. “All I can think of is him” she said as she showed Anne a photo of Mark. “Yes, that’s him. He says don’t sweat the small stuff and everything is going to be ok.” Victoria took in the information she was getting. It all made sense. She really enjoyed talking with Anne. It almost felt like she had known Anne her whole life. Toward the end of the reading Anne taught Victoria how to protect herself during meditations. “You have angels all around you. Always remember you are very well protected. Also, you should come into money soon. That’s what this card you drew from my deck means. If things flow easily, it’s for you. If things don’t flow, it’s not for you.” Victoria paid Anne for her time. She was disappointed it was over. Two hours of conversation with Anne felt like thirty minutes. Walking to her car, Victoria felt happy. A sense of purpose, which was after all what she was searching for.

Months went on and she practiced the protected meditations Anne recommended. Victoria had vivid dreams. She experienced a lot more spiritual activity in her home but none felt negative or bad. She could hear, smell, feel the spirits around but still never saw with her physical eye. Still she was pleased with the improvements. Scott was skeptical of these spiritual activities but supported her nonetheless. He was pleased she finally dons something she truly was interested in. He always thought she was a little different. She was detached, emotionless most of the time. Yet still extremely caring and a great mother.

On Scott’s nights off, Victoria would go to the local grocery store and get all favorite snacks for Scott. She walked to the car feeling the cold wind cut through her body like knives. These days she was happier. She typically loathed people and trips to the store. Now it was different. She appreciated each moment and ran errands with no anxiety. While walking to her car with the bags of snacks hanging on her arm she noticed something lying on the ground near her car. As she walked closer, struggling to open the door with the bags cutting the circulation off she glanced at the object again. It was a small black book. Victoria loaded the bags in the car, closed the door, picked up the little black book.

Glancing through it, it only had one number inside. It was small, black, and leather. It had the marking of the triple goddess on the cover. She decided to get in her vehicle, taking the book with her. On the drive home, she felt like she had a sense of guilt because she had stolen the book but it was too interesting to leave behind. Once she arrived at her home, she carries the bags inside. The older three boys were at school. The youngest boy and Scott were napping. Since she was alone, which didn’t happen often, she studied the black book she just found.

All she found inside the book of white pages was one single address. She decided to go to this address out of curiosity since she had another hour or so of free time. She got into her car with the black book, put the address in her gps, and started out of her driveway. Was this the right thing to do? Was this dangerous? This was crazy. Still, she felt drawn to go. “Turn left”, said her gps. She looked and it was a long driveway. She wasn’t able to see what was at the end. Feeling nervous she turned and started down the drive. It had an eerie feeling. Woods on both sides, all trees dead and covered in snow. The driveway had not been driven on recently for it was covered in snow. As she neared the end of the driveway she saw a huge, black, Victorian goth style house. Her first thought was that it was haunted.

She parked in the drive way, near the front door of the house. Nervous and honestly a little afraid she got out of the car. Staring at the house, she noticed someone vanished from the upstairs window. Curious she walked up to the front door and rang the doorbell. Waiting for what seemed like hours in the cold, the door opened. On the other side it was a lady. This lady was in her late forties. She had long bright red hair that curled down to her waist. Brightest green eyes you could imagine. What stood out most to Victoria though was the pendant around her neck. It was the shape of a key made of stone that was black, blue, and green. Almost like it was holographic. “Hum, hi”, said Victoria. I was running errands today and I stumbled across this little black book.” She held the book out for the lady to see. “Felt that I should return it to the address that was inside.” Victoria said nervously.

The lady smiled, “Yes, I recognize this book. I believe it belongs to a client of mine. Would you like to come inside”? Victoria thought on the offer for a moment. Not safe to enter a spooky home she doesn’t know yet so drawn to find out more about the book. She entered the home. “Thank you for bringing the book. You have a pleasant energy about you. I believe the book found it’s way to you. My name is Malia.” Victoria responded, “Of course, it’s my pleasure. Not to sound odd but I actually felt drawn to bring it here. What do you mean the book found it’s way to me”? “Sit, would like some tea? I can explain everything to you.”, Malia said. “Sure, thank you”, Victoria responded.

“Here you are”, Malia said reaching to give Victoria a cup of tea. Victoria thought the cup set was absolutely beautiful. It was all black with gold trim. She took a sip of the tea and it was warming. Nice to be warm again after being in the cold most of the day. “So, the book is part of my family. An heirloom if you will. You believe in magic?”, Malia asked. Victoria nodded while looking at her sipping her cup of tea. “Good, I assumed since the book knows who it’s to find next. This book is magic. Everything you write in this book will come true the next day. We advise to not wish for harmful things because everything comes back threefold. As long as it’s beneficial and helpful you will be fine. Once the owner passes, it will find its next soul to bless. This book is extremely powerful. It is yours now until you pass on”. Victoria looked at her watch, “Oh no, I have to get home my kids will be getting off the bus soon”. “Well, take this book with you. If you have any questions you’re welcome back here anytime”, said Malia. “Thank you, I still have many questions. I’m sure I’ll be back.” Victoria walked to her car and drove away.

Victoria could wait to try this book. Doubtful of it’s supposed magic yet hopeful it worked all at the same time. She got the kids off the bus, participating in her daily afternoon duties. Finally, the kids were in bed. Scott was sitting on the sofa beside her playing his video games. She grabbed the book and pen. She begin to ponder of the things she truly wanted. She felt she needed to be careful in case this actually works. Scott noticed her book. “What’s that, new journal”, he asked. She nodded at him too interested in what she was going to write down to verbally respond. She put pen to paper and began writing.

I want $20,000 to be deposited into our account. She thought she would only write one thing for now. This was something that could help her family. Kyle had lost overtime and they were struggling financially. She closed her eyes and the book at the same time while thinking to herself “I hope this works”. She and Kyle watched a show and went to bed shortly after.

The next morning she woke, made her coffee and was curious about the wish she had made to the book. It’s all she could think about. Hours passed and it was pure torture wondering if the money had magically appeared in the account. It was now 3pm when Scott ran down the stairs where Victoria and the kids were. “Can I have a word”, he said to Victoria. She got up and walked into the next room. “I have $20,000 that was just deposited into the checking account. I don’t know where this money came from. This is a large lump of cash. It doesn’t just magically appear! Do you know where this came from”? She could hardly contain her excitement. She didn’t feel comfortable telling him how it really came from a magic book so she came up with a different way it appeared. “Yes, I wrote a short fiction story’s while back. First place was awarded $20,000. I never mentioned it to you because I didn’t think I’d win but oh my god I did! We needed this money so bad!” “Wow, I can’t believe it. What a miracle and congratulations”, Scott exclaimed.

The next day Victoria was still so shocked that the book actually worked! She decided to come with a reason to go out for a bit to talk to Malia more about the book. She told Scott she needed to drop some things off at Lily’s house that she would be back in an hour or so. Lily was her best friend. She got in her car and drove the Malia. Once she arrived, she rang the doorbell, Malia was pleased to see her again. “Come in my dear”, Malia greeted her. She entered her eerie home. “I wrote a sum of money in the book, like you said it came true the next day. I’d like to talk to you more about the book, why I was the once chosen.” Yes, yes I assumed you’d be back”, said Malia. They sat on the velvet green sofas. Everything in here was dark, yet so elegant and beautiful. “You had a past life as witch my dear. You’re afraid of fire because you were burned at the stake centuries ago” Malia explained. How did she know I was strangely afraid of fire? This is getting weird, Victoria thought to herself. Malia continued, “see this book was created before your lifetime as a witch. It has been used in one witch bloodline. You are that bloodline. It remembered your soul from your previous lifetime.” “So wait, you said last time that it was part of your family. If it’s part of yours and mine, does that make us related somehow”, Victoria asked. Malia was pleased she was catching on. “Yes”, Malia explained. “You were my child in that past life. I taught you everything you knew of magic. We had karmic lessons to learn so we chose to meet again in this lifetime. This is why you’re so drawn to spirituality and never had much love for the Christian upbringing you had”. Oh my god! Victoria thought to herself. This explains so much of who I am. “You have unlimited power with the book being in your possession again. Use it wisely. Help others and make this world a better place”, Malia told Victoria. “I have to get going. Thank you so much for explaining it all to me. I will do good by it. I promise”, said Victoria as she was walking out of the house.

Victoria arrived home. She went straight to her book. Each day she would write one wish in the book. She continued to live her life abundantly with her husband and four boys. They always had wealth, health, traveled the world. They were happy having each other and never having to worry about things in life because to them it always seemed to work out. What they didn’t realize is they Victoria made that happen with a stroke of a pen. She also helped people around the world. She wished for peace, so wars ended. She wished kindness of all living things, so hate was no more. No more orphaned children, no more hunger. She wished away sickness. No more cancer or major life threatening illnesses. She indeed made the world a better place. She was now at the age of 85. Living a long life of making the world better by using her wishes she passed away at old age. Leaving her husband and sons in a good place. She lived a full, rewarding life. Her family missed her and were so proud of her. It was now time for the book to erase itself and find it’s next soul. Let us hope it makes it’s way to another kind soul; for if it finds an evil soul the world Victoria spent a lifetime creating would all be destroyed.
