Is Star Wars Dead?

A personal opinion on my favorite franchise.

By almostgQQdenoughPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

With the fully released Obi-Wan Kenobi show and Star Wars fans still upset with the content, it is safe to assume that people are starting to get over the franchise. Disney has made sure to keep fans entertained with multiple shows already streaming and upcoming yet the complaint is the same. The quality of these shows have deteriorated. The Mandalorian being the first Star Wars Disney plus show was well made with excellent visuals and good music. This show had many fans happy with the content Disney was providing, however that success didn’t carry over to the Book of Boba Fett. Personally, I enjoyed the Book of Boba Fett, yet many didn’t and have mixed feelings about it. The same goes for the recently released Obi-Wan show.

Now, is this really a result of fans no longer enjoying Star Wars? Probably not. I am not a business expert by any means but I do know my fair share of Star Wars. The content we are receiving is a lot, but the production value is no longer there, which can take you out of the experience. This is where I see Star Wars struggling at the moment. It’s not that people don’t want to see Darth Vader and Obi-Wan duel once again or see the return of Luke Skywalker, its that each time feels like a quick money grab from the viewers with little return. The problem is, Disney is making money doing this. Why change the business model when its making money? Their goal isn’t to satisfy every Star Wars fan, its to make money.

Star Wars isn’t dead yet. It still has a large fan base, me being a part of it, but that doesn’t mean the perception of Star Wars online isn’t poor. It seems every other video I see about Star Wars is how this didn’t work or why this shouldn’t have happened. Their isn’t a set solution, but there are things to make it better. Disney should slow down the pace of production on these upcoming projects and give value to the shows instead of it always feeling cheap. This can be a running business model because it will keep people interested longer, which means more money over time. Right now, they have peoples interest in their shows, but that might not last long with the current quality. Now fans can also do better. The more complaining about each project only shows Disney one thing. It’s that no matter what story they put out, people will get upset, but hey, we are still making money so who cares?

On a personal note, I don’t understand why “Star Wars fans” take to social media to flame the show/movie when something happens that they don’t like. Star Wars is a huge franchise with several different eras. This means there will be Star Wars fans of different parts, meaning not everyone will like the same thing. People should understand this and still let others enjoy even if they don’t. If you didn’t like Book of Boba Fett, don’t watch it and let others be. They are still a Star Wars fan even if they like a different part of the franchise. Please don’t be toxic because someone likes something you don’t. By all means, say the show needs improvement without implying that others need to immediately not like it too.

All in all, Star Wars will still be my favorite franchise and I hope its yours too. Don’t let others tell you why you can’t or shouldn’t like it or why Disney ruined Star Wars. It’s up to you what you think about the franchise and its up to you to continue watching the shows.
