Elementals

Chapter 1

By Courtley TerrasiPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

The breeze was fresh. The smell of the salt in her nostrils brought a kind of comfort. A feeling of home. In these times of turmoil it was comforting for her as she looked on past the cliff side and out into the open ocean. Beside her a prim rose was just starting to bloom as the sunlight gently kissed the petals. The beautiful shade of pink was almost that of a young girl blushing over a kiss from someone she admired. She dreamt about what that may feel like as she stared at he bloom.

Something like that, destined to be only that of a daydream for her. Her life was that of choas and turmoil. She had little time to worry about admirers and things called love. Although they must be nice. She continued to day dream as a small smile started to spread across her face as she dreamt about what that warm feeling in her chest would feel like. If she was a normal girl. Without any other worries in the world.

But again that wasn't her life. She was a warrior. She had a larger purpose here. She had a gift unlike any other. But was it actually a gift? Or maybe a curse keeping her from the simple life that she sometimes longed for. In this quiet moment she thought about her purpose here in this world. Why was she chosen for this? What could she possibly possess that others didn't to be given such a responsibility as guarding an elemental. Not just guarding but being bestowed the power herself. To use as she saw fit. To bring peace. But what was peace? What was balance? How did she achieve it? What was her true purpose here.

These are the thoughts that made her long for that simple life. A simple girl worried about friendship and love and the simple things in life like cooking, cleaning and family. She was told that she had a great destiny by the Fae. But why was a human girl like herself chosen instead of another member of the Fae.

These are the same questions she pondered day in and day out. What if she wasn't good enough. What if she was too week? What if she couldn't control the power? What if......

She felt a rustle in the grass behind her. But her instincts recognized the energy of her visitor and was not alarmed. This energy was calm, comforting, and strong. But not a vicious of malicious strong. Its the kind of strong that makes you feel safe when you are scared. Knowing that you are protected.

She closed her eyes and smirked a little as a beautiful grey wolf walked up beside her sitting and staring at her. She opened her eyes to meet his. Its eyes a beautiful shade of indigo blue that peared into her own jade green ones.

"Were you tring to sneak up on me? If so you need a little more work there." She said with a joking smirk. In that momnet the grey wolf began to glow. A white light surrounded him until it encompassed him completely. His shape began to shift and change into that of a young man. Sitting on the ground legs crossed and looking straight back into her eyes as the wolf once was. The light slowly faded revealing a young man with long silver hair that was half pulled back behind his head as the rest drapped down his back and shoulders. The shade of silver shimmered when the sunlight hit it just right like right now. His skin was pale but you could tell that he wasn't afraid of the sun having a slight sunkissed glow about him.

"Just checking up on you more so." He repied back with a half smile. He looked out to the sea from past the cliff and took a deep breath in revelling in the salt air just as she had been doing. "Its beautiful here." He said quietly.

"I know." She replied back gently taking in a deep breath herself. "Its peaceful too. It gives me a sense of comfort amongst all of the uncertainties right now." Her face dropped slightly as the weight of her reality began to weigh on her once again. The war, her power, her responsibility to not just her fellow humans but the Fae and Gaia herself. It was a lot weighing on the mind of a 19 year old girl.

The young man took a deep breath as well. Taking a moment to savory the salt air before exhailing loudly and leaning back. His hands taking in all the sensations of the soft grass below him. "You are right. We do live without knowing what the next day will hold for us." He paused for a minute looking back at the girl's face. Her long dark brown hair shining in the morning sunlight and the wind tousling her waves ever so gently against her face. " But at least we are living out these days together instead of alone."

The girl raised her head and looked back at his now smiling face as he gazed at her. She smiled back pleased with his comment.

"Rosalia! Rowan!"

They both turned to see a girl with the same silvery long hair pale skin as the young man running towards them. Her hair was also pulled back slightly with flowers adorning the long strands that had been braided and falling down the bakc of her head. She was beautiful but had a sense of childlike fun to her energy. Much unlike the other two who were more subtle.

She ran up to them her pale dress flowing in the breeze. "Where have you two been? We need to get moving!" She scolded.

"Sorry Lily." Rosalia said with a small smile as she stood from the soft grass .

The three walked back to their small camp to pack up and move on. They had a mission that only they could complete. To help bring balance to the natural and magickal world that they all lived in. There was darkness growing and it was thier duty to stop it and return balance to the worlds of the magickal and mundain.
