The Dalek and the Dragon raced in for the kill, as Yaz let out a smile, she was getting good at this, “ready for this Kla?”

The Dragon was in striking zone, and Kla decided to let the Dalek go for a second. She hit the Dragon with the full blast of her heat vision

“Surprise!” Yaz said triumphantly

“I love surprises,” the Doctor fanned her hair as she raised her sonic, and other crewmembers had their best weapons ready to fire.

* * *

The dragon was in pain, it flailed about, as it did it struck the Dalek who didn’t like that very much. “You have struck a superior being, for that you must be EXTERMINATED!” The Dalek let out its most powerful blast, but the effect wasn’t quite what he was expecting, the Dragon lived on. “DIE! DIE!”

“Having troubles?” The Doctor teased.

“DOCTOR!” the Dalek was horrified it spun to get a look at its enemy

“That’s right!” The Doctor smiled. “I am the Doctor, and you are the Lone Dalek. And guess what I’m ready for you.”

The Dalek shook in its metal shell.

“Now who’s scared.” The Doctor shoved the sonic Screwdriver up the Dalek’s proverbial ass as she parroted a cry she’s heard so m any times before in a mock Dalek voice. “EXTERMINATE!”

“NO-O--.” The Dalek cried as the only living organism inside it died, and the shell dropped like a bag or bricks and split open upon impact.

“Now we can concentrate on the real menace,” the Doctor turned her attention back to the Red Dragon.

* * *

The baby white dragon began to venture out of the Cargo Bay, at first it was a little scared of the Red Dragon, but it realized there was no reason to. Red began to throw out a flame, but the white dragons blue flame was hotter and more powerful. It took it a second, but the flame overtook the red flame.

* * *

Down below the mother of the white dragon looked up and saw her young in danger, and very quickly all of the white dragons joined the battle

* * *

The Dragon could take no more, it tried to flee, but it was surrounded, it let out a final scream as it gave up and death hit its fatal blow, it dropped to the ground dead.

“I don’t know about you guys,” Captain Johnson put his phaser away, “but I’m suddenly hungry for a little summer cookout. We have sun, we have plenty of meat, good company…--.”

* * *

When the red Dragon’s carcass dropped to the valley below, the baby dragon was no longer considered to be a baby, it was beginning to mature and grow, but it still needed its mother, and its mother still needed him. The two white dragons danced around one another as they went to their little spot in the valley.

* * *

Several hours later, the crew of the valley enjoyed their dragon dinner, it was just like a typical summer picnic with fresh cooked meat, mashed potatoes and even watermelon. Lois got messy with eating the watermelon, and intentionally so.

“You’ve got something on your lips,” Kla leaned in for a kiss.

“Maybe I want something on my lips,” Lois leaned into the kiss

“Come on guys,” Captain Johnson motioned the rest of the people away, “let them go and have their moment, and we should respect those moments as long as it doesn’t interfere with their duties.”

“Agreed,” Michelle smiled, she had gotten a call from the bridge, “and I believe you are wanted in the ready-room, there is an admiral who wished to speak to you.”

There were a few uh-hos as the captain looked at his proverbial watch. “Right on time.”

“This isn’t unexpected, is it?”

“All relevant crew are to meet me on the bridge at 05:00.”

“Yaz,” the Doctor felt a tear come down the side of her face, “it’s almost time for us to go.

“Can we stay long enough to see what happens at 05:00?”

“Of course,” the Doctor said, “but the bridge between this universe and ours is beginning to shut down, besides I need to face the inevitable.”

“Doctor,”

“I can’t keep this up forever,”

“I love you,”

“I know,” the Doctor wanted to leave it there, but she remembered not being able to get the proper closure with Rose Tyler when she was in the body of the young man, “I love you too. No matter what happens when we get back, I in this body will always love you.”

* * *

The clock hit 05:00 as the captain turned to the essential personnel who were gathered solely on the bridge.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Johnson said, “most of you do not realize that the past six months was an extended shakedown cruise with an experiment going on on this ship.”

“What sort of an experiment?”

“All of the ships of the federation have families aboard their ships from the Adelphi to the Zhukov and every ship In between, Enterprise, Voyager the list goes on. But the admiral and I agreed six months ago to conduct an experiment, and that experiment was not to concern ourselves with ranks and positions but to serve as an extended family unit.

“When I was called up to the admiral, it was the evaluation of that test, and it is my pleasure to say to you that we passed the test. No longer are we some underrated back water crew of glorified janators.”

“What are we then,” Kla asked, “sir?”

“As of this time,” the admiral listened in by way of the viewscreen, it was one of the female admirals, “you are a fully commissioned ship with a fully commissioned crew with proper captains and first officers, with a twist, the family unit structure remains intact.”

* * *

The Doctor allowed for Yaz to listen in for long enough, she nudged her and motioned towards the TARDIS. “We need to go.”

“OK,” Yaz followed the Doctor into the TARDIS and after a few seconds took off with the signature grinding sounds.

* * *

The Admiral was aware of the TARDIS and its disappearance. “It is my understanding that you will be in need of a few crew members, a ships doctor, a helmsman and others. When you report to starbase-5, your ship will have suitable replacements made available to you as well as certain upgrades that will make you a fully functional ship.”

There was a collective applause from the bridge crew.

“I understand that there were a few marriage and even kids produced from this experiment. First to Captain Johnson and his wife Michelle, and my prayers are with the child who will have to remain in the incubator, I will have the new ships doctor be aware of that situation.”

“Thank you sir.”

“I also understand that the Vulcan woman--.”

“With due respect, I am no longer Vulcan only by blood.”

“And you no longer bear the Vulcan name of T’Pan,”

“That is correct, I now go by Lois,”

“Kla, I see you no longer bear that ridiculous disguise of being a male,”

“That is correct,” Kla puffed out her chest, “and I have in turn embraced new-Krypton with Lois as my wife.”

“I wish I were at the wedding,” the Admiral smiled, “and I also understand that this meeting is taking place during a little picnic you guys are having.”

“You’re welcome to join, there is plenty of meat.” Captain Johnson offered

“This call is being made from Starbase-5,”

“We can always send you some of the dragon meat,”

“How does that taste?”

“Like chicken,” Lois responded, “sir.”

“You guys can go back down to the picnic in a few minutes, but I would like to help you guys create something for you to remember before you begin each mission.”

“Thank you,” Captain Johnson said.

“Space,” the admiral began, “the final frontier….”

“These are the voyages of the USS Valley,” Captain Johnson continued.

“Her mission is to explore strange new worlds,” Lois added.

“To seek and to find new life and civilizations,” Michelle continued

“To boldly go where no one has ever gone before.” Kla concluded.

[There weren’t always dragons in the valley, but now it looks like they are here to stay.]
