Dating in 2077

Life inside the dome

By Band as a BusinessPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

One of the things Mark hated most about dating in 2077 was everything.

He was a sub-prime, he had bad genes and that meant he couldn't date. He had a history of heart disease and brown eyes. He was 29 years old and he'd never been on a date before. He watched the old films, it showed a different time. Long before the apps, profiles, rankings and DNA screening. People were attracted to each other and they even had a thing named a blind date met with someone based on their friends recommendations and not genetics. He couldn't imagine that, but in 2020 they cared about attraction, fun and they even drank wine. They had this thing called Merlot which was fermented grapes and apparently made people more attractive.

Now everything was all about success, good genes, prime children and winning. The only good thing about his life was he was a programmer. His mother and father were both Company programmers and had access to the source code. They broke the rules and taught him all they knew. Now he was working the code and they had to keep him. Mark knew from all those films from 1990's that he needed love, he needed to find a girl who cared about him being nice and not what color their children eyes would be. The only good thing was he worked for the company.

In 2077 the dome was all that protected them from the outside. It was a murky mix of toxic smog, air-borne viruses, pollution and waste from the dome. They had invented, patent and commercialized time travel. He had to work 100 years and then he'd earn his own PTD (personal time travel device) the nice thing was he once he'd done 10 years, they sent him back. They also had the feature of "Mind-control" so they'd send him back into his own mind, so he was a 129 but had the body of a 29 year old. He was a damn good programmer by now.

Now Mark had his own PTD he had to pick the right time to go back to, he knew that everything went to hell after 2025 but a part of him wanted to spend a few hours on the Titanic and meet the artist Jack Dawson from the documentary. Mark had done his research and he set his PTD. He was going back to 2015, a place called Melbourne and a bar. Which was a place where they sold the wine, Merlot and had speed dating which he wanted to witness.

Mark appeared in a toilet stall in the building, the door was open but no-one saw him. It would wait until he was alone. He walked out of the room and turned to the left. It was incredible to his eyes. The place was called a hotel and this was the bar. There were two staff and they greeted him and he just walked in. No licence to date, no DNA test, he just walked in. Their was a large sign that read "First Date", this was it, he was ready.

Their was a man in a very good fashioned suit and everyone was dressed strangely but so was he. He had mimic clothes on. He walked up to the host and was stunned at the woman, they were pretty and one of them even smiled at him, it had been years since a woman smiled at him. He found out he could talk to them each for five minutes and if they liked him they could meet again.

Soon the man rang a bell and he sat down across from the woman, she smiled again. "Hello and what do you do?" she asked. He knew they all had different jobs but the company was formed even back then.

"I work for Amazon," he said.
